**Hello, anime fans**. Today I'm going to talk to you about another one of the best anime series I've seen this past season. It's a series full of action, adventure, and magic swords that you're definitely going to love, especially if you're looking for some real entertainment. This is one of those remakes that I'm really grateful they made, as it gave me the privilege of discovering such an incredible work. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by [**Gosho Aoyama**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gosho_Aoyama) (creator of **Detective Conan**), **Yaiba** is an animated adaptation produced by [**Wit Studio**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wit_Studio). ### Plot
The anime begins in the middle of a rainforest with a small boy with spiky hair eating while a huge gorilla approaches him to attack. The boy defends himself, showing his great speed. Suddenly, he pulls out a wooden sword and fights the giant animal. He easily defeats it with a couple of moves. The little winner's name is **Yaiba Kurogane**, and his dream is to become the best swordsman in the world. That's why he has been training since childhood with his father **Kenjuurou** on this remote island. However, the gorilla's friends appear after the confrontation and chase them until the two fall into a fruit container in a truck heading for **Tokyo**, **Japan**.

I'll start by saying that this is one of the most entertaining and fascinating anime series I've seen this year. And I'm not exaggerating when I say that, not only because it was animated by one of the best and biggest animation studios in the world (**Wit Studio**), but also because its story, conflicts, and characters are equally fascinating. I'm surprised that, until the first episode aired, I had never heard of or seen anything about this anime before. Even though it was created by the same genius who made **Detective Conan**, one of the most popular detective anime series of this century.
This is one of those remakes that I am truly grateful for, thanks to **Netflix**, which, every once in a while, does things right. If it weren't for this remake, I would never have known about this great work full of action, adventure, comedy, fantasy, and even science fiction. I don't know what others think about remakes, but I strongly support this type of method of producing audiovisual content because, apart from reviving old classics and works that deserve a second chance, they have the opportunity to reawaken an old fandom along with the opportunity to attract a new audience from this new generation. Clearly, there are certain underlying issues that are discussed and taken into account when deciding whether or not to make a remake.

Me sorprende que, hasta la emisión de su primer episodio, nunca llegué a conocer ni ver nada sobre este anime antes. Aún teniendo como sello garantizado de que fue creado por el mismo genio que hizo **Detective Conan**, el cual es uno de los animes de detectives más populares de este siglo.

But anyway, that's not why we're here. We're here to talk about **Yaiba** and what it has to offer as an action-adventure shōnen anime. It's funny how much I ended up liking this anime, despite having a story somewhat similar to many other action and adventure works. You could even say that it has a few inspirations from **Dragon Ball**, for example (protagonist with spiky hair, magic spheres, anthropomorphic and talking animals, etc.). Obviously, this is not surprising at all, as it is normal in this industry for works to replicate the same thing over and over again to obtain the same result and thus sell us something we already know and feel familiar with.
But unlike most of today's shōnen action anime, let's remember that **Yaiba** is one of the first works of the last century that sought inspiration from the early success of works such as **Dragon Ball** (one of the most popular references in this genre in the industry from the 1980s to the present day). And while it has a similar storyline, such as the "*hero's journey*", becoming the "*strongest samurai*", and all that, I think the way the characters are constructed and developed in this anime is very different from what is usual in many other action anime.

Incluso se podría decir que tiene una que otra inspiración en **Dragon Ball**, por ejemplo (protagonista con cabello puntiagudo, esferas mágicas, animales antropomorfos y parlantes, etc.). Obviamente, no es una sorpresa en lo absoluto ya que es normal que en esta industria existan obras que repliquen lo mismo una y otra vez para obtener el mismo resultado y así vendernos algo que ya conocemos y con lo que nos podemos sentir familiarizados.

To begin with, there is the story, which broadly speaking is about our protagonist **Yaiba** seeking to become the strongest samurai in the world. However, beyond this, we could see this story as a confrontation and a struggle between powers. Themes such as good and evil (Ying & Yang), light and darkness, courage and the desire for power are mentioned many times throughout this anime. On one side, we have little **Yaiba Kurogane**, who has trained with his father on an island to become the strongest swordsman. On the other side, we have another contender named **Takeshi Onimaru**, who has also trained hard for most of his life. The two face off in a duel from the beginning, and after an unexpected tie, both **Yaiba** and **Onimaru** forge an enmity that will change everything.
From here on out, a myriad of events occur that will take **Yaiba** and his friends on a journey to gain the power and strength they need to "*save the world*". The theme of revenge, battles, and the way everything that happens in the anime ends up revolving around a final confrontation between the protagonist and **Onimaru**. Obviously, what I just told you is nothing new, as it's the same old story. However, it's because it's so well done that I liked it so much. There are generic works that aren't worth watching because they're so poorly made, and you can tell at a glance, but that's not the case with this anime. I think you only need to watch the first few episodes to realize how good it is.

Temas como el bien y el mal (Ying & Yang), la luz y la oscuridad, la valentía y el deseo de poder son mencionados muchas veces a lo largo de este anime. Por otro lado, tenemos a otro aspirante llamado **Takeshi Onimaru** que ha entrenado duro también gran parte de su vida. Ambos se enfrentan a duelo desde el principio y, luego de un inesperado empate, tanto **Yaiba** como **Onimaru** forjan una enemistad que lo cambiará todo.

Obviamente, lo que les acabo de contar no es algo nuevo, ya que se trata de la misma historia de siempre. Sin embargo, es por lo bien hecha que está que me gustó bastante. Hay obras genéricas que no valen la pena por lo mal hechas que están y eso se nota a simple vista, pero esto no ocurre con este anime. Y creo que solo hace falta ver sus primeros episodios para darse cuenta de lo buena que es.

I believe that both the studio and the creator of the work managed to make something especially entertaining for all types of audiences. And this can be seen in this remake with a satisfying amount of action, a level of dark humor that doesn't end up being absurd, but also not entirely innocent, and an adventure full of fantastic things and obstacles one after another without stopping. Each episode of this anime is made so that you can't take your eyes off the screen, and I'm not just saying that because it's so well done on an audiovisual level, I repeat. It also has a certain character development that is quite striking.
Starting with **Yaiba**, the protagonist, he is presented to us as a cheerful boy who only thinks about fighting strong opponents with swords. But as the episodes progress and he experiences more events with his friends, he begins to have more important reasons to become the strongest samurai of all. Unlike the stupid **Goku**, **Yaiba** is aware of everything he does and seeks to improve, not only as a swordsman, but also as a person. Let's say that, while it doesn't have the best character development out there, this anime manages to give us important moments, as well as forging valuable relationships that make sense over time. On the other hand, it does have its usual generic characters, starting with **Yaiba**'s master and most of the opponents he faces.

Y esto se puede notar en este remake con una cantidad satisfactoria de acción, un nivel de humor negro que no termina siendo absurdo, pero tampoco inocente del todo y una aventura repleta de cosas fantásticas y obstáculos tras otro sin parar. Cada episodio de este anime está hecho para que no te despegues de la pantalla y no solo lo digo por lo excelentemente hecho que está a nivel audiovisual, repito. Sino que también tiene cierto desarrollo entre sus personajes que llama bastante la atención.

Digamos que, si bien no tiene los mejores desarrollos de personajes que existen, este anime consigue darnos momentos importantes; además de forjar relaciones valiosas que cobran sentido con el paso del tiempo. Por otro lado, sí tiene sus personajes genéricos de siempre, empezando por el maestro de **Yaiba** y la mayoría de los contrincantes a los que se enfrenta.

Another detail in this anime is the unfinished final confrontations. Just when we expect an unparalleled battle to end, something happens that interrupts the fight or causes both opponents to end up equal. It's not that I dislike this, since, after all, it helps introduce us to a new and much more interesting arc. But personally, at the end of this first season, I found it a bit annoying that, right in the middle of a great fight, they introduce another seemingly important antagonist who steals all the attention. But hey, that's normal when it comes to an action series of this style, as it's their way of keeping the viewer hooked from beginning to end.
Last but not least, let's talk about the audiovisual aspect of this anime. Produced by the great **Wit Studio**, this remake of **Yaiba** has some of the best animation I've seen in the last decade. The drawing style of this anime is quite faithful to the original work, but what's fascinating is how they managed to combine this with such fluid animation and visual effects and movements that are completely insane. The shots, transitions, color palette, lighting, and CGI, which is well used to construct environments and cities, are top-notch. The sound effects are excellent, without a doubt. But the soundtrack of this anime is completely insane, especially the opening. In short, this is an anime for teenagers and adults with good taste that I definitely recommend watching.
