**Hello, anime fans.** Today I'm going to talk about a japanese science fiction, suspense, and mystery anime series that I watched last season. This work tells a futuristic version of the well-known detective story. Based on the light novel series of the same name written by **Mareho Kikuishi** and illustrated by **Tsubata Nozaki**, **Your Forma** is an adaptation produced by [**Geno Studio**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geno_Studio). ### Plot
The anime begins by showing us an alternate world where technology has advanced so much that it is used in everyday life in unimaginable ways. This is where **Your Forma** comes in, the epitome of technology in this world, which is used by everyone to communicate and access endless data and information just by thinking about it. However, this technology completely excludes you from your privacy, as it records everything: ***from what you see to what you feel.*** In this world where everything is digitized in an endless sea of data, we find our protagonist, the young cyber-inspector **Echika Hieda**, who has the ability to "*dive*" into people's minds through **Your Forma** in order to gather information and solve different murder cases.

Personally, I admit that I didn't expect much from this anime when I saw it on TV. Despite how promising last season was in terms of science fiction works, I didn't see this particular series as having the potential to become one of my favorites. And in the end, that's how it turned out, but this doesn't take away from the fact that both its story and some of its characters had the potential to be something better than what it ended up being. I'm not saying it's a bad anime, but I'm also not saying it's one of the best anime in the genre, far from it. Still, the mix of mystery, suspense, and science fiction is more than intriguing.
Before continuing with my opinion about this underrated series of the season, I would like to add something to the plot I just mentioned above. Our young protagonist and cyber-inspector, **Echika Hieda**, has a gift for "*diving*" into people's minds using **Your Forma** technology, which makes her the ultimate weapon for the **Cybersecurity Department** in this futuristic world. However, none of her colleagues could keep up with this genius, which led to several losses and casualties. That's why she was assigned a state-of-the-art intelligent android (**Amicus**) named **Harold Lucraft** to be her new partner.

> Personalmente admito que no esperé casi nada de este anime cuando lo vi en emisión. A pesar de lo prometedora que fue la temporada pasada en cuanto a obras de ciencia ficción, esta serie en particular no la veía con el potencial para convertirse en una de mis favoritas. Y al final fue así, pero esto no quita el hecho de que tanto su historia como algunos de sus personajes tuvieron el potencial de llegar a ser algo mejor de lo que terminó siendo. No digo con esto que sea un mal anime, pero tampoco digo que sea de los mejores animes del género, ni mucho menos. Aún así, la mezcla de misterio con suspenso y ciencia ficción que posee es más que intrigante.

To be honest, the main plot was the first and only thing that caught my attention about this anime at the time. Just seeing a futuristic alternate world like this is reason enough to give it a shot. As a fan of the science fiction genre, I couldn't just ignore this type of work, which isn't always seen in this huge industry. However, one of the main negative points of this anime is definitely the way it tells its story. Or at least that's what I've noticed in this adaptation, since at the beginning a lot of questions arise with very little context about everything we're seeing.
While this problem arises at the beginning, only some of these questions are answered throughout the following episodes. Regarding this, there is a positive side to the cases they deal with. Each mission that this curious pair of cyber inspectors has is related to how this advanced cyber society suffers from various cases of attacks, identity theft, impersonation, and even murders by dangerous criminals. Each of these cases leaves us with an interesting lesson on how the use of this new technology affects people's security and identity.

> Si les soy sincero, la trama principal fue lo primero y lo único que me llamó la atención de este anime en su momento. El solo hecho de ver un mundo alternativo futurista de este estilo ya es razón suficiente como para darle una oportunidad. Como todo fan del género de la ciencia ficción, no pude simplemente ignorar este tipo de obras que no siempre se ven en esta enorme industria. Sin embargo, uno de los principales puntos negativos que tiene este anime es definitivamente la forma en la que cuenta su historia. O al menos eso es lo que he notado en esta adaptación, ya que al principio surgen un montón de preguntas con muy poco contexto acerca de todo lo que estamos viendo.

Con respecto a esto, tiene su lado positivo en cuanto al tema de los casos que tratan. Cada misión que tienen esta curiosa pareja de inspectores cibernéticos está relacionada a cómo ésta avanzada sociedad cibernética sufre diversos casos de ataques, robos de identidad, suplantaciones y hasta asesinatos por medio de criminales peligrosos. Cada uno de estos casos nos deja una lección interesante sobre cómo el uso de esta nueva tecnología afecta la seguridad y la misma identidad de las personas.

But that's not all, as some cases even tell us something about our protagonists and their stories before they became who they are today. So, this is reason enough to accept that this story is one that develops over the course of the episodes and does not have a predefined context at the beginning. This way of telling a story is key, especially if you want to generate curiosity and mystery, which this anime does very well. I'm not a big fan of mystery anime, but in this case, it's the mix of science fiction and suspense that makes it a perfect example of curiosity and interesting cases.
Now, in the case of the characters, the story itself and the cases dealt with in this anime manage to develop them in a way that is not uncommon. An example of this is the case of **Harold Lucraft**, a state-of-the-art **Amicus** who, from the first episode, we can see how each case shows us different and interesting information about his origin and function. Topics such as the "***Black Box***" and this android's ability to develop human emotions without realizing it are quite intriguing. Especially at the end with the case of "***The Nightmare of St. Petersburg***", which is the most traumatic case I have seen in this entire anime.

> Pero esto no es todo, ya que algunos casos incluso nos cuentan algo acerca de nuestros protagonistas y sus historias antes de ser lo que son actualmente. Así que, con esto ya es razón suficiente para aceptar que esta historia es de las que se desarrollan con el paso de los episodios y no poseen un contexto predefinido al principio. Esta forma de contarnos una historia es clave, sobre todo si se busca generar curiosidad y misterio en la misma, cosa que cumple muy bien este anime. No soy muy fan de ver animes de misterio, pero en este caso es la misma mezcla de ciencia ficción y suspenso que posee la obra la que la convierte en un ejemplar perfecto de curiosidades y casos interesantes.

> Ahora, en el caso de los personajes, la misma historia y los mismos casos que se tratan en este anime consiguen desarrollarlos de una manera no muy poco común. Un ejemplo de esto es el caso de **Harold Lucraft**, un **Amicus** de última generación que, desde el primer episodio, podemos notar cómo cada caso nos muestra una información distinta e interesante acerca de su origen y función. Temas como la “***Caja Negra***” y la capacidad que tiene este androide de desarrollar emociones humanas sin tenerlo en cuenta es algo que intriga bastante. Sobre todo al final con el caso de “***La Pesadilla de San Petersburgo***”, el cual es el caso más traumático que he visto de todo este anime.

Returning to **Harold Lucraft**, as a character, he plays the excellent role of "*Watson*" in this futuristic detective story. The only interesting thing about all this is his very origin, which calls into question the fact discussed throughout this story regarding the **Amicus** and their ability to develop emotions and make decisions influenced by the evil that exists in this world, as well as the danger this poses to today's society. For a simple intelligent robot, I consider Harold to be the most developed character in this anime. In the case of **Echika Hieda**, I can't say much about it since she is not a character that has been developed as much as her robot companion.
Of course, there are also those indirect messages and lessons that each case solved in this anime has. All of them are related to society and how technology directly and indirectly influences people. Cases of families being destroyed because of a robot, a mother being deceived by the intelligent copy of her murdered son, or a rebellious man and member of an anarchist group who is also the father of a hacker who has not had a very pleasant childhood, to say the least. What's great about this anime may be the way it makes us think about the consequences of excessive use of technology in our lives and how **AI** can become a dangerous weapon in the wrong hands.

Lo único interesante de todo esto es su mismo origen, lo cual pone en tela de juicio el hecho que se discute a lo largo de esta historia con respecto a los **Amicus** y su capacidad de desarrollar emociones y tomar decisiones influenciados por el mal que existe en este mundo, además del peligro que esto implica para la sociedad actual. Para ser un simple robot inteligente, considero que Harold es el que tiene más desarrollo de personaje que el resto en este anime. Con el caso de **Echika Hieda** no puedo decir mucho al respecto ya que no es un personaje que hayan desarrollado tanto como lo fue el caso de su compañero robot.

Casos de familias siendo destruidas por culpa de un robot, una madre siendo engañada por la copia inteligente de su hijo asesinado o un hombre rebelde y miembro de un grupo anarquista que a su vez es padre de una hacker que no ha tenido una infancia muy agradable que digamos. Lo genial de este anime puede que sea la forma en la que nos pone a pensar acerca de las consecuencias del uso excesivo de la tecnología en nuestras vidas y cómo la **IA** puede llegar a convertirse en un arma peligrosa en las manos equivocadas.

This is where I want to delve a little deeper into how all this makes us think about how real life can be much more similar than we think. And I'm not saying this because we are all connected with a chip embedded in our brains (as is the case in **Your Forma**), but because of how technology is becoming so necessary in the daily lives of every human being. Advances in technology, especially **AI**, have led many to talk about absurd things regarding the future and the fate of humanity. However, one thing that is certain is how dangerous this technology can be for society if its users are malicious people. It is a fact that evil always exists, whether tangible or intangible.
Last but not least, let's talk about the audiovisual aspect of this anime. Let's be honest and admit that it is not one of the best animated adaptations we have seen, much less this season. But at least the level of quality and visual detail is among the most decent you can find. At least in terms of character design, gray and opaque color palette, cyberpunk style, and use of CGI or 3D animation for environments or objects, it's not bad at all. It's true that the anime mostly lacks fluidity, but the details and effects are not lacking in the slightest. The sound effects aren't bad either, but the best thing is the soundtrack, which manages to convey what is sought in each scene. In short, this is not an anime for everyone, only for true fans of suspense, technology, and mystery.
