Beings that come from water, that inhabit rivers and lakes, have always been mentioned in the folklore of diverse cultures. Many stories speak of the malicious intentions of some, the mischief of others, and, on many occasions, of the help received from these beings. In Cuba, they are called Güijes, Sací Perere in South American countries, Vodník in the Czech Republic, and many others. The equivalent of these beings in Japanese folklore is the so-called Kappa, whose name is composed of two kanji characters, 河童: the character 河 (Kawa) means "River" and 童 (Warabe) means "Child," so literally, it means "River Child." It was believed that this creature had malicious intentions, so many parents used this character as a warning about the dangers that could abound in such places. This is why the Kappa became one of the most well-known yokai, or monsters, in Japanese culture. I made this illustration as part of the sticker collection to give to guests for International Nikei Day. Here I show you the process.

Desde siempre se ha mencionado en el folclore de disímiles culturas, seres que provienen del agua, que habitan en los ríos, en los lagos, en muchos relatos se habla de las intenciones maliciosas de algunos, la picardía de otros y no en escasas ocasiones de ayuda recibida también por parte de estos seres. En cuba, los llaman Güijes, Sací Perere en países del sur de América, Vodník en la República Checa y otros muchos. El equivalente a esos seres en el folclore japonés, es el denominado Kappa, cuyo nombre está compuesto por dos caracteres kanji 河童, el caracter 河 (Kawa) significa "Río" y 童 (Warabe) significa "Niño", por lo que en sentido literal viene significando "Niño del Río". Se creía que este ser tenía intenciones maliciosas, por eso muchos de los padres utilizaban a este personaje como advertencia sobre los peligros que podían abundar en dichos lugares, es por esta razón que el Kappa se convirtió en uno de los yokai o monstruos, más conocidos en la cultura japonesa. Hice esta ilustración como parte de la colección de stickers para obsequiar a los invitados del Día Internacional del Nikei. Aquí les muestro el proceso.
