Hello hive family, I’m Nelly, I’m new here on hive, I’m based in Port Harcourt Nigeria, I’m a Nail technician ,I love creating magic with nails. I’m so happy to join this vibrant community.
I’ve lived in port Harcourt all my life, from nursery school to the university. Uni days was fun, but I gave up on my course during our year 4 and 5.
Year 4 was my IT year,in my faculty you’re not allowed to work anywhere,they made us stay in school and suffer. We had 5 units, and you’re expected to visit all the unit to get your A. 400l will help you boost your CGPA, so everyone was trying to show up to school every day.
The first unit I visited was piggery unit,then we clean the pig pen,wash them with clean water,prepare the feed,and feed them. Clean the environment,
We did that for 1 month,then we went to another unit. The poultry unit. We go to school everyday because the birds need to eat,on Sundays after church,we’re in school feeding the birds.
After that unit we went to the mushroom unit.I enjoyed the unit because there was nothing to do there,so we just come,write on the attendance list,and play games till 4pm.
After a month staying at that unit, we went to crop unit. This place, lol it was stressful, my group cultivated sweet corn and cucumber. Each person own a ridge, you take care of the ridge and your plant because that’s where your score comes from. It was fun because the crops did so well.
During my final year, the stress was so much, because my project was to raise birds, using yam and potato peals as replacement for their food, i and my colleagues will go to bole joints and beg them to keep the yam and potato peels for us, after we’ve gotten 2 to 3 bags we wash, sundried3 and send them out for grinding, we raised the child from A day old till 8 weeks, you can imagine the stress.
We visit the farm everyday, morning and night. Just to feed them, during my final exams, we had to visit the farm too before going to the exam hall, it was so stressful.
I got my full marks though, at least the stress wasn’t in vain. These are memories we remember and laugh . Back then nothing was funny at all.
After I graduated from the university, I refused to go back home, stayed back in school, renewed my rent. I decided to learn a skill because I got tired of staying at home l. I made my research, I wanted to go into fashion designing, but 2020 during that Covid lockdown, we all went home, I decided to go learn fashion designing ,I think the lady is a tailor and not a fashion designer, because she really didn’t teach us anything, just Blouse for ladies, you know young girls styles, she didn’t teach us so i stopped going to learn, because of that experience then I decided to try something else.
During my research journey of what skill to learn, I saw beautiful designs people do with nails, you draw a celebrity, cartoon characters, and because I love to design and draw, I decided to go learn how to make nails.
I went on to register for the nails class. It was for 2 months. It wasn’t as easy as I thought, but after the two months training, nail was made easy
I started checking out nail designs, follow some nail artists online, watch some nail tutorial videos, opened a Pinterest account, and I love Pinterest because it has so many ideas, so many nail designs, I go on Pinterest,
check out a design and try it out. My cousins were my models then, with the injury I give to them in the process of filing and shaping, whenever I call them, they’ll still come.
Have you ever seen a gown style, or a shoe design, or an art work and be like, how did this person do this, like how did this person achieve this , that was me each time I go online and see some nail designs, I’ll be like how do people do this. We’re getting there.
I rented a space in a make up studio, I started getting clients, jobs started coming, I won’t say I’m perfect, because each day new designs come in, but I’ll say I’m good at my job.
Currently I do deferent nail designs,I do press on nails too.i might go into doing press on nails alone. At least I won’t get to use the acrylic liquid, there’s a rumour going on that inhaling acrylic liquid is harmful.
I’m happy I finally joined hive, I was told about this platform by my friend, She helped me navigate through the setting up process. She told me I could share my designs here as well.
I’m so happy to join this community,where I can share talk about my nail designs and learn from others on this blockchain. I’m not the best of writers,but my friend told me I’d learn if I’m willing. I am willing!
