In Commemoration of World Sickle cell awareness day; June 19th Sickle cell refers to a hereditary disease which is gotten when an individual receives Sickle cell gene from both parents who are carriers of the sickle cell trait. It is a lifelong condition that can cause severe pain, frequent hospital visits, and numerous complications. **The City Doctors wish to remind you that this disorder is very very much entirely preventable and not to leave the genotype of your child(ren) to chance. Know your genotype and that of your spouse/ partner. It's always disheartening to see a child suffer so much pain because of sickle cell.** Sickle cell disease affects not just the child, but the parents and the entire family — physically, emotionally, socially, and financially. The saying, "Prevention is better than cure" might sound cliché but it cannot be overemphasized.
