# City Clinic From The City Clinic; Let's Talk Viral Hepatitis Viral Hepatitis refers to an infection of the liver that is of viral origin. It could be Hepatitis A, B, C, D or E. They all have their various symptoms, risk factors, causes and management. #### The information below is a general preventive measure for Viral Hepatitis as a whole.

#### *As we already know, prevention is better and cheaper than cure and as such, adopting the following measures would go a long way in preventing viral Hepatitis.* 1. Safe Injection practices; avoiding sharing of sharps and use of sterile needles 2. Safe Blood transfusion; proper screening of blood before transfusion. 3. Safe sex practices; use of condoms and reduction of number of sexual partners. 4. Maternal Screening; proper screening of pregnant women to identify children that could be at risk and manage accordingly. 5. Proper hand hygiene and adequate cooking of meals would help prevent hepatitis A. 6. Immunisation is also encouraged for prevention of these viruses.
