# City Clinic Breast Cancer Awareness — Early Detection Saves Lives The month of October is dedicated Breast Cancer and the numbers from morbidity & mortality rates of this disease speaks volume as to why it is a month and not just a day. Breast cancer isn’t just statistics — it’s a reality that touches families, friends, and communities. *Here comes the comfort:* **when detected early, breast cancer is highly treatable and curable** ### Risk Factors of Breast Cancer * Genes * Family history of breast cancer * Obesity * Alcohol * Exposure to radiation * Early age of first menarche, * Pregnancy at a very late age * Hormonal therapies * Old age * Late menopause * Poor diet As you can see, some of these factors aren't something you have control over, which is where Breast Self Examination plays a big role ; To help you detect it early!! **Check yourself regularly** *Do a monthly breast self-exam and what are you looking out for?* * lumps * Nipple discharge * Skin dimpling * Changes in breast shape.
