Our province is a home to many waterfalls. One of the famous is the Tinago Falls which also means “hidden” in the local language. It is located in the rainforest of Barangay Cabibihan, Caibiran. The falls has an estimated height of 90 feet. I would say that it’s the highest waterfall I’ve seen in our province.

Going to Tinago Falls is just a 30-minute ride from Naval, the province’s town. Yet, there are no any public transportation that would drop you at the waterfall entrance. That means, it’s another 10-minute ride if you get off from the main road. It’s actually advisable to have your own transportation going there.

I may have come here several times but I’ve been back again after a year. This time I came back together with my whole family. It’s the first time we came altogether. Sadly, we didn’t bring any spare clothes as we don’t intend to swim. The weather is also gloomy and it’s drizzling so even dipping into the water would really feel so cold. We just really want to take a complete family picture with the waterfall behind us.

The place has a wide parking area and you have to walk down through the concrete stairs leading to the guardhouse where you need to pay an entrance fee of 20.00 for adults and 10.00 for kids. I’m glad that the price hasn’t changed in the last two years. It is really cheap.

The waterfalls release a strong water pressure, yet, I witnessed a lot of people taking risks by jumping from the highest part of the waterfall. I can’t help but shout when I see people jump from a great height. Aside from swimming, may people dive from the water or even take snacks on the rocks nearby the waterfall.

There are two huge cottages for viewing and where the guests could eat foods they brought. When we came, we witnessed people gathering and even dancing to the sound of the music. Yes, the place could also be a venue for any celebration.

There’s also a wide lawn, where children could play. There’s an area for cooking and grilling, a sink with abundant supply of water so you could actually prepare foods on the site. They also have a spacious separate comfort room for men and women and a room for changing clothes.
Tinago falls is continuously being developed and I could see beautiful improvements such as the paved wide stairs where you can finally rest your tripod if you want to have a picture with the whole family and friends.
I’m glad to be able to visit again Tinago Falls and I would love be back in a sunny weather and be able to enjoy swimming in the cold water. If only I know how to drive, I would love to visit it anytime.
So if you are coming to Biliran, you might want to include Tinago Falls in your visit list. You would surely love the sight and swimming experience.
