Since I started learning to draw, I’ve downloaded tons of apps to help me learn. Honestly, they’re not great for making progress, and most don’t really work—but they do have really cute little drawings you can follow step by step. Even though the drawings are simple, they’re fun to make. There’s one app in particular that focuses on little animals, and I really liked it. But I gave myself a challenge: no sketch, just pen, and only one try. Little by little, I filled an entire page. Then I decided to add a bit of color. I don’t think it’s a major practice or a step forward in my goal, but sometimes you just have to do different, silly activities for the joy of it.
Desde que estoy aprendiendo a dibujar, me he descargado un montón de aplicaciones para aprender. Para adelantar no son buenas y no funcionan, pero sí tienen dibujitos muy lindos que puedes hacer paso a paso. Aunque son dibujos sencillos, son divertidos de hacer. Hay una aplicación en especial que es de animalitos y me gustó mucho, pero me puse un reto: sin boceto, con lapicero y de un solo intento. Poco a poco fui llenando toda una hoja. Después decidí darle un poco de color. Creo que no es una gran práctica ni un paso adelante en mi objetivo, pero a veces simplemente hay que hacer actividades distintas y sin sentido.
This is how my entire drawing turned out using only lines. It was a bit difficult to draw everything in one go without sketches, but in the end, I think it was a good exercise for practicing line work. I really liked it—so much that it deserves some color! But first, here’s a close-up of a few of the little drawings.
Así quedó todo mi dibujo con solo líneas. Fue algo difícil dibujar todo de una sola vez sin bocetos, pero creo que al final fue una buena práctica para hacer líneas. Me gustó mucho, tanto que se merece color. Pero antes, un acercamiento a algunos dibujitos.

I also love how the little sheep and the monkey turned out—they look super cute!

To color my drawing, I’ll be using alcohol markers—and yes, it’s a thin sheet, so the ink will show through on the other side. Let’s start with a raccoon and a few little bunnies. I love that tiny Christmas-themed penguin, and the frog with its big bulging eyes. But out of all of them, maybe my favorite is the green turtle… or maybe the little yellow bee.
Para colorear mi dibujo estaré usando marcadores de alcohol, y sí, es una hoja delgada, así que va a transparentar al otro lado. Empecemos por un mapache y algunos conejitos. Me encanta ese pequeño pingüino tan navideño, o la ranita con sus grandes ojos saltones. Pero de todos, de todos, quizás mi favorito sea la tortuga verde… o quizás la pequeña abejita amarilla.
I really enjoyed this experience, and I ended up with lots more little animals that I’ll be drawing soon. I might come back to this kind of simple drawing—they’re so fun and feel like a refreshing break from all the complicated stuff like perspective and anatomy.
