Hello, today I get to share with you another day from the sketchbook. To be exact, today marks day number 51—a day of exploration, full of mistakes and ugly drawings. But in this blog, I’m sharing both the good and the bad of the learning process. This is a blog focused on my artistic growth, the entire journey and its stumbles. Today’s practice was filled with bad drawings, yes, but also with a lot of learning: a bit of Loomis, anatomy, and poses, in summary.
Hola, hoy me toca compartir con ustedes un día más del sketchbook. Para ser exactos, hoy toca el día número 51, un día de exploración y lleno de errores y dibujos feos. Pero en este blog estoy compartiendo todo lo bueno y lo malo del proceso de aprendizaje. Este es un blog enfocado en mi crecimiento artístico y todo el camino y tropiezos. El día de práctica de hoy estuvo lleno de malos dibujos, sí, pero también de mucho aprendizaje: un poco de Loomis, anatomía y poses, en resumen.
We began today’s practice with the three expressions from Loomis’s book Fun with a Pencil. We had left them pending since day 51. These expressions are: Delight, Glee, and Hilarity—basically, laughter from least to greatest.
Comenzamos el día de práctica con las tres expresiones del libro de Loomis Fun with a Pencil. Las habíamos dejado pendientes desde el día 51. Estas expresiones son: Delight, Glee y Hilarity, básicamente risas de menor a mayor.
We’re closing Loomis for today, since the next exercise is based entirely on laughter and I’d like to tackle it all in one sitting. Instead, I’m opening my Japanese Torso book, and today’s task is to continue with neck exercises—learning their structure, shape, and movement. The first thing is how the size of the neck varies depending on the character’s proportions and stylization.
Cerramos Loomis por hoy, ya que el siguiente ejercicio está basado solo en risas y me gustaría hacerlo completamente de una sentada. En cambio, abro mi libro de Tronco japonés y veo que lo que me toca hoy es seguir con los ejercicios de cuellos: aprender su estructura, forma y movimiento. A bit more neck anatomy—I really liked the first body slice on this sketchbook page. It’s a pose I had never drawn before.
Un poco más de anatomía del cuello, me gustó mucho el primer corte del cuerpo de esta página del sketchbook. Es una pose que nunca antes había dibujado.
The next thing I wanted to do was a pose exercise using reference. I chose a photo of a model from Pinterest that I really liked and divided the exercise into three steps: first, drawing the silhouette in blue with a single continuous line without lifting the pencil; then, using red to sketch the structure; and finally, finishing the drawing with pen. Honestly, I didn’t like the result at all—the drawing turned out very disproportionate, mainly because I based it on the initial silhouette, which wasn’t well proportioned.
Lo siguiente que quería hacer era un ejercicio de pose utilizando referencia. Tomé una foto de una modelo de Pinterest que me gustó mucho y dividí el ejercicio en tres: con color azul dibujar la silueta de una sola línea sin levantar el lápiz; después, con rojo la estructura; y con bolígrafo el resultado final. La verdad no me gustó nada este dibujo, quedó muy desproporcionado, sobre todo porque me basé en el primer dibujo de silueta sin levantar el lápiz y ese no estaba bien proporcionado.
The last thing I did was return to the hatching practice from the previous drawing session. I wanted to draw a human face, so I used a 3D model as reference. I really liked the result, and I think it shows a slight bit of progress. I’m feeling very eager to start focusing more deeply on the human face. This was the final drawing of today.

Lo último fue regresar al hatching de la sesión anterior de dibujo y quería dibujar un rostro humano. Para eso utilicé referencia de un modelo 3D. El resultado me gustó bastante, y creo que es una muestra de un ligero progreso. Ya tengo muchas ganas de llegar a centrarme en el rostro humano. Este fue el último dibujo del día de hoy.
