Three days after finishing the Holozing challenge for the month of October—after completing Inktober day by day for the very first time—I took a short break from drawing. It had been a long time since I’d drawn so much, so often, and especially while following prompts.
Today, after three days of rest, I return to drawing—but this time without pressure. I draw for the joy of it, like when I was a child, with colored pencils and no ideas in my head—just letting whatever wants to come out, come out.
I also had a small leftover scrap of white paper from the challenge, and I thought: why not use it? And I believe this community is the perfect place to share it.
Tres días después de terminar el reto de Holozing del mes de octubre—de completar por primera vez el Inktober día a día—me tomé un pequeño descanso de dibujar. Hacía mucho que no dibujaba tanto y tan seguido, pero sobre todo, que no dibujaba siguiendo instrucciones. Hoy, tres días de descanso después, regreso a dibujar. Regreso a dibujar pero sin presiones, a dibujar por el gusto de dibujar, como cuando era niño, con lápices de colores y sin ideas en la cabeza—solo lo que salga. Además, me quedó un pequeño fragmento de papel blanco del reto, y hay que aprovecharlo. Y creo que esta comunidad será el lugar perfecto para compartirlo.
I love fantasy worlds and magical creatures, so I decided to draw a forest fairy—a very colorful one. Without thinking about poses or anatomy, I just started drawing. I made a very soft sketch using only an HB pencil. I’m not aiming for perfection, I’m aiming for fun—drawing just to draw. That’s what I need today. I haven’t forgotten all the drawings I left unfinished and the daily practice sessions that paused this month, even though I never stopped drawing every day.
Me encantan los universos de fantasía y las criaturas mágicas, por eso se me ocurrió dibujar un hada del bosque, una muy colorida. Así que sin pensar en poses ni anatomías comencé a dibujar, creé un boceto bien suave solamente usando un lápiz HB. No busco perfección, busco diversión—dibujar por dibujar, por hoy es lo que necesito. No se me olvida todos los dibujos que dejé a medias y las prácticas diarias que se detuvieron este mes, aunque nunca dejé de dibujar diariamente.
Sketch is ready—now comes the hard part, because I want to go over all the lines with black ink. And if Inktober did anything, it was leave me out of ink. So I’m using an old pen that still writes but skips a lot. Even so, I’ll give it my best effort to get a nice, clean result.
Boceto listo—viene lo difícil, porque quiero repasar todas las líneas con tinta negra. Y si algo hizo mella el Inktober fue dejarme sin tinta. Así que tengo una vieja lapicera que escribe pero falla mucho. Aun así, daremos nuestro mejor esfuerzo para que quede un bonito resultado, lo más prolijo posible.
After drawing line after line—and making a few mistakes—I now have all the lines of my drawing, the line art, completely finished. Now I just have to wait for the ink to dry before erasing the sketch.
Después de hacer líneas y líneas, y algunos errores, tengo todas las líneas de mi dibujo, el line art, completamente listo. Ahora toca esperar que la tinta se seque para borrar el boceto.

Now it’s time to color—and I have no idea how to color skin. If you’ve read me before, you know how afraid I am of adding color to my drawings. I think it’s a very tricky part that can really make the difference between a good drawing and a bad one. So I’m starting with the easiest thing that could go wrong: the skin.
Ahora a colorear. Ni idea de cómo colorear pieles. Si me han leído antes, saben el miedo que le tengo a dar colores a mis dibujos. Creo que es una parte muy complicada y que puede marcar mucho la diferencia entre un buen dibujo y un mal dibujo. Así que empiezo con lo más fácil que puede salir mal: la piel.
I want to give her beautiful, colorful hair, and I also want her crown of wildflowers to look really lovely. If you look closely, I surrounded her with stars, sparkles, and glimmers, along with some dust spirits—susuwatari—like the ones from My Neighbor Totoro. I colored them to match her hair, because I can and it’s my drawing, haha!
Quiero hacerle un cabello muy lindo y colorido, además quiero que quede bien linda su corona de flores silvestres. Además, si se fijan, la rodeé de estrellas, brillos y destellos junto a unos espíritus del polvo—susuwataris—como los que salen en Mi vecino Totoro, y los colorié del color de su pelo, porque puedo y es mi dibujo jajaja.
Her outfit is going to be super colorful, full of gradients and sparkles. I especially love the transition from yellow to red—I think it looks amazing on her.
Su ropa también quiero que sea muy muy colorida, llena de degradados y brillos. Me gusta en especial la transición de amarillo a rojo, creo que le queda genial.

Y así quedó el dibujo final después que le hice algunos arbustos para el fondo.
I decided to place this drawing in my practice sketchbook. Why? It’s not an anatomy study, nor a portrait exercise—it’s just a simple drawing. But I think it represents that childlike part of drawing for fun, not for perfection or technique. And the perfect place for it, of course, is right next to my warrior—the one I drew a long time ago.
Decidí colocar este dibujo en mi sketchbook de prácticas. ¿Por qué? No es una práctica de anatomía, ni de rostros, es solo un dibujo simple. Pero creo que representa esa parte infantil de diversión para dibujar y no de perfección y técnica. El lugar perfecto, por supuesto, es justo junto a mi guerrera, aquella que dibujé hace mucho mucho.
