Character Design Challenge: Masked Trickster

So we have to design a character that meets certain requirements—and the most complex part is that it must meet all of them at once.
Entonces tenemos que diseñar un personaje que cumpla ciertos requisitos, lo más complejo es que los tiene que cumplir todos a la vez.
It can be anything from an artist to a supernatural entity. I’ve chosen a juggler harlequin with superhero posture.
Puede ser desde un artista a una entidad sobrenatural. Me decanto por un arlequín malabarista con pose de superhéroe.
I imagine their movements as agile and graceful—delicate yet powerful.
Sus movimientos me los imagino ágiles y gráciles, delicados pero poderosos.
We must use three elements:
A large headdress or helmet—I’ll give them a feathered headdress, but not on their head. They hold it in their hand as a gesture of reverence. On their head, a large jingle bell hat. I’ll also add their juggling balls, and decorate with polka dots and diamond patterns on the sleeves.
Hay que usar tres elementos:
Un tocado o casco grande. Le haré un tocado de plumas, pero no en la cabeza: lo sostiene en la mano en forma de reverencia. En su cabeza, un gran gorro de cascabeles. Añadiré las pelotas de sus malabares también y le haré patrones de lunares y en las mangas de rombos.
The vibrant colors I’ll use are red, orange, and green—all cheerful, festive, and warm. The green shoes with jingle bells will match the rest of the outfit, hat, and gloves. The playful details requested will be the feathers and bells.
Los colores vibrantes que usaré serán todos de rojo, naranja y verde, todo muy alegre, festivo y cálido. Los zapatos verdes terminados en cascabeles harán juego con el resto de su outfit, gorro y guantes. Y los detalles juguetones que se piden añadir serán las plumas y cascabeles.
I started my drawing with a quick mini-sketch of the main elements I wanted, so I wouldn’t forget any. Then I built the basic pose using stick lines, and gradually added muscles, details, and some clothing and hat elements.
Comencé mi dibujo haciendo un minisketch rápido de los principales elementos que quería para no olvidar ninguno, y seguido hice con palitos la estructura básica de mi pose. Ahí fui agregando músculos y detalles, así como algunos elementos de la ropa y el sombrero.
A little while later, I had made good progress on the drawing, including the pose of the feathered fan-shaped headdress they’re holding.
Un rato después ya tenía bastante adelantado mi dibujo, incluyendo la pose del tocado en forma de abanico de plumas que sostiene.
I’ll be sharing an animation of the entire sketching process of my drawing.
Les compartiré una animación de todo el proceso de boceto de mi dibujo.
With my drawing fully finished, all that was left was to add color. I’ll be using exclusively the palette we defined in the concept: red as the primary color, with details in various shades of orange and green. Little by little, I added highlights, shadows, and other small touches. I really enjoyed drawing this character and working with a concept chosen by someone else—I think it’s a great way to challenge our creativity and problem-solving skills.
Con todo mi dibujo listo, solo quedaba darle color. Estaré usando exclusivamente la paleta que definimos en el concepto: rojo como color primario y los detalles en distintos tonos de naranja y verde. Poco a poco fui agregando luces, sombras y otros detalles varios. Me gustó mucho dibujar este personaje y trabajar con un concepto que decidió alguien más. Creo que es una muy buena forma de poner en reto nuestra creatividad y poder de solución.
