Today I wanted to draw a character from the Holozing universe, and after much thought I decided to draw an Ocean Healer. I like this character because I really enjoy everything related to the water element and the ocean, so that had to be reflected in my drawing. That’s why I depicted them from behind, looking through a large underwater porthole shaped like a fisheye, where they can see several aquatic creatures from the world of Holozing. For my drawing, I used a combination of traditional and digital techniques, and I did the coloring in ibis Paint.
Hoy quería dibujar un personaje del universo de Holozing, y después de mucho pensar me decidí por dibujar a un Ocean Healer. Me gusta este personaje porque me gusta mucho todo lo relacionado con el elemento agua y el océano, así que eso se tenía que ver en mi dibujo. Por lo tanto, lo hice de espaldas mirando a través de una gran ventanilla submarina en forma de ojo de pez, donde puede ver a varias criaturas acuáticas del mundo de Holozing. Para mi dibujo estuve usando una combinación entre técnica tradicional y dibujo digital; el coloreado lo hice en ibis Paint.
First, I took a scrap of paper and sketched in pencil what I wanted for my drawing. The coral diadem and the white and turquoise cape were essential, as were the character’s signature spiky hair and gloves. In the porthole that opens up to the underwater world, I had to include some fish and a Water Whale in the background. I really liked this sketch, so I was ready to begin the linework.
Primero tomé un fragmento de papel donde hice a lápiz un boceto de lo que quería en mi dibujo. La diadema de coral y su capa blanca y turquesa no podían faltar, tampoco su característico cabello en puntas y sus guantes. En la escotilla que abre la vista al mundo submarino no podían faltar algunos peces y una Water Whale al fondo. Me gustó mucho este boceto, así que estaba listo para comenzar con el trazado.
Little by little, using an ordinary pen, I carefully redrew all the final outer lines of my drawing. It’s a meticulous and delicate task that requires, above all, a lot of patience to avoid making mistakes.
Poco a poco, con un lapicero común y corriente, redibujé todas las líneas exteriores definitivas de mi dibujo. Es un trabajo minucioso y delicado donde hay que tener, sobre todo, mucha paciencia para no equivocarse.
The next lines I draw are the inner lines of the illustration, which help give it depth and define areas of light and shadow. They also allow me to practice my line art and improve my precision. In this account, we’re here to learn—so whenever we can challenge ourselves through our drawings, we will!
Las siguientes líneas que hago son las líneas interiores del dibujo, que buscan darle una buena profundidad y delimitar zonas de luces y sombras. Además, me permiten practicar mi line art y ganar en precisión. En esta cuenta estamos aprendiendo, así que siempre que podamos retarnos en los dibujos, ¡lo haremos!
We import our drawing into Ibis Paint and use the line extraction tool to get all our lines on a white background. These lines will be placed on a layer with the “Multiply” blending mode activated, and now we’re ready for the coloring stage—which is the most fun part! I’ll be using my finger, which is more than enough for coloring.
Importamos nuestro dibujo a Ibis Paint y usamos la herramienta de extracción de líneas para obtener todas nuestras líneas sobre fondo blanco. Estas líneas las colocaremos en una capa con la opción de fusión “Multiplicar” activada, ¡y estamos listos para los colores, que es lo más divertido! Estaré usando mi dedo, que es más que suficiente para colorear.
We color, we color—some shadows, some highlights—and our drawing is complete. This is a piece I truly enjoyed creating, and I’ll be sharing the full timelapse later so you can clearly see the process. I loved drawing Ocean Healer; it’s one of my favorite Holozing illustrations. I hope you like this character as much as I do.
