After completing the list of prompts from Inktober 2016 (only three drawings left to share soon), I thought—why not keep pace with the upcoming prompts by creating more complex illustrations based on the previous year's list?
Después de completar la lista de prompts del Inktober del año 2016 (faltan 3 dibujos que compartiré próximamente), pensé: ¿por qué no ir a la par de los próximos prompts, haciendo ilustraciones más complejas con los prompts del año anterior?
Prompt 01 from 2016 was FAST, and under that concept, my drawing was a silhouette of a man running at full speed. But for this new illustration, I wanted to take the concept a step further. That’s how I came up with the idea of drawing a snail—perhaps the most recognized symbol of slowness—but this snail will have car engines mounted on its shell so it can go faster and never lose a race.
El prompt 01 del 2016 fue FAST, y bajo ese concepto mi dibujo fue una silueta de un hombre corriendo a toda velocidad. Pero para esta nueva ilustración quise ir un paso más allá en el concepto. Así fue como se me ocurrió la idea de dibujar un caracol, quizás el símbolo más reconocido de la lentitud, pero este caracol tendrá motores de auto en su caparazón para poder ir más rápido y que nadie le gane en las carreras.
I made a quick doodle of the elements I wanted in my illustration: the snail, its shell, the exhaust pipe for the engine, the race car number, and its driver goggles.
Hice un doodle bien rápido de las cosas que quería en mi ilustración: el caracol, su caparazón, el escape para el motor, el número de auto de carrera y sus gafas de conductor.
With the idea set aside, I began working on my first sketch. As you can see, I'm using Ibis Paint for the entire illustration. I really liked the snail’s eyes and mustache. I moved the exhaust pipe to the lower part, added some moss on top, a necklace shaped like a car air freshener, and placed the number on its chest. Now it's a 5—just because I simply like that number.
Con la idea a un lado, comencé a hacer mi primer boceto. Como ven, estoy utilizando Ibis Paint para toda la ilustración. Me gustaron mucho los ojos y el bigote del caracol. Sustituí el lugar del escape a la parte inferior, agregué algo de musgo en la parte superior, un collar con forma de aromatizante de auto, y el número se lo puse en el pecho. Ahora es un 5, porque simplemente me gusta ese número.
Afterward, we’ll add many more details to this sketch—lights, lines, grass, and tiny weeds, with some clovers growing. I really liked the result. Plus, I was experimenting with a new graphite-textured pencil brush.
Después, a este boceto le añadiremos muchos más detalles: luces, líneas, césped y pequeños hierbajos, algunos tréboles creciendo. Me gustó bastante el resultado. Además, estaba experimentando con un nuevo pincel de textura de lápiz de grafito.
