It is tough being the number one toy in the newthings house hold. Number one for a bloody long time mine you! but I am not really counting. Sure I have had a bit of help from the old short green guy that talks backwards but who hasn't had a bit of help from time to time.
The place was a mess when I first showed up. There was some other Legos knocking around but they were all messed up with wooden Thomas the tank, small 1/72 scaled soldiers, tanks and a few zoo and farm animals running wild. Mr Dinky Thunderbirds and UFO interceptor thought that they were in charge because they were strong and made of metal. But their time was coming to an end. They were starting to rust after being left outside in the rain once to often.
It wasn't an easy start after a rush build. Early one Christmas morning I was first box opened and everything else was on hold until I was assembled. Unfortunately my X wing was smashed to pieces on its maiden flight. The young co pilot of the house tripped on some useless soft toy and I ended up nose diving straight into the unforgiving tiled floor. I felt like the whole toy kingdom was laughing at me, totally wiping out in the first few minutes. Any other toy would have been back in the box and back to the store for a warranty refund but I just knew I would be back bigger and stronger after a Christmas lunch rebuild.
It has not been easy with many new contenders over the years Pokémon, transformers, remote control cars all came and went. Not to mention all the cheap Chinese imitations and want to bees. Probably the toughest time was the teenage sell down years. Lots of old friends were off loaded on ebay to finance the motorbike. I was just lucky it did not qualify in the toy category.
Just as I thought I was nearing my retirement, I over heard the two big shots of the house talking about me moving when the grandchildren are old enough. Now that sounds like another tough mission.
