Always Plan Your Life: Sharing My Life Experience

Nothing in this life beats planning. The outcome of a person’s life is a result of how they planned their life. Planning involves thinking about tomorrow and doing things today to ensure that you achieve what you envisage.

This is where a lot of people fail because they think that life is all about luck. Being lucky, according to some people, is when a miracle happens. That's not true. Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Lots of people have missed opportunities because they weren't prepared.

This is how planning saved my life many years ago.

I went for a compulsory one-year youth service in my country in 2017. This is usually compulsory in the country for all graduates below the age of 30 years. I left for the service and we were placed on a monthly salary which was as good as nothing. My salary was my only means of survival. My food, accommodation, clothing, transportation and every other bill. By the end of the month, the money won't be enough to cater to my needs.

What did I do in that case? I began to plan my life because I knew that life would continue after the service year. I knew that I would have to travel back to my state, get a new accommodation, and start my life anew. I began to cut down on some expenses. Hence, I began saving as little money as I could. I curtailed unnecessary eating out and drinking.

It was always in my consciousness that I would have to start life from scratch, hence I would need money. I knew I had nobody else to help me so I advised myself and began to save. While some of my colleagues were spending their allowances, I became prudent, while they were calling me stingy, I didn't mind.

By the end of my national youth service, I was able to realise a significant amount of money that helped me to get a decent accommodation in my city. Many of my colleagues who weren't planning went back to their parents' house to start a life and it became very difficult for them.

Whatever you want your life to be depends on how you plan it. There is no wisdom in folding your hands and thinking that what's gonna be will be. Nothing is going to be when you have not worked it out.

Get up and plan your life, and also work towards achieving what you've planned, with timelines. It's not enough to just plan; ensure that you have a timeline, which will help you work harder. Whatever you want to achieve in this life, please plan for it.

This is my life experience, and I believe it will help someone else.
