In a twinkle of an eye.
Among all the virtues of life, love seems to be the most complicated of them all. Love is supposed to be a beautiful thing, but the nature of the human mind has turned it into a thing which causes pain, heartbreak and tears. People who have come out of the deception of the thing called love never remain the same.
People who have pure intentions about love when they are hurt become more dangerous to others with pure intentions about love. The popular phrase among Nigerians, “everyone go chop breakfast”, is a pointer that love deceives. Permit me to differ that what we obtain recently is nothing but wickedness in the disguise of love.
Ruth just came out of a dreadful relationship, which almost affected her mental health; she endured all the tantrums thrown at her because she loved Kenneth. Hence, she could endure the pains, hoping that the relationship would lead to something meaningful in the future. Kenneth has been the lucky one in this regard. The one who is loved in the relationship is always lucky, while the one who loves suffers.
Love is such that it can blind someone from knowing and understanding the reality on the ground, even when all odds are against you, and even when it's obvious that the one your heart beats for does not regard you in most aspects, you'll see yourself stupidly hanging around.
Ruth was abused several times; she goes out of her comfort zone to ensure that Kenneth is fine, and Kenneth never lifts a finger to reciprocate the same. “Are you sure this guy loves you”? Her friend will always ask. “Yes, he does”, she will always reply. “Then why all the beatings and abuses”? They will enquire further, “forget about that, he's a good guy”, she will always defend him. What are friends for, if they do not rescue their fellow friend who is in danger? “I would advise that you run out of this relationship before it claims your head” one of them advised. With this kind of advice, if you are not careful, you will be regarded as an enemy of progress. “Think about this,” Nkoyo, her friend, advises, “if this guy truly loves you as you claim, why does he claim so only when he wants something from you”? She said, giving her food for thought.
In this life, no matter how smart and powerful you think you are, the strength of love will humble and cripple you. When love is not mutual, one party will have to pay the price, and no matter how a man pretends to love a girl when he doesn't in a real sense, in the end, it will show. Most times one is careless not to observe.
One fateful Saturday morning, Nkoyo’s phone rang, and it was Ruth calling. She took the call, “I am dying”, the voice said from the other end. Before she could ask her friend what the matter could be, he had already started crying, “Kenneth had finally broken up with me” She broke the news, and Nkoyo wasn't surprised because she knew a time such as this would come. “But we told you and you wouldn't listen” she said “Please where are you”? “I am home” “I am coming before I do something crazy, my head is hot” she said amidst her tears.
“The relationship has ended, just like that. When you love, do it with sense and not with your emotions,” she said, advising all those who are in love.
