Por estos días vivimos la ansiedad de sentirnos amenazados por un huracán. Cada vivencia es diferente, según el lugar donde nos ubiquemos.
He iniciado varios post, con el entusiasmo que me insufla estar en #Hive. Pero, las experiencias por contar se me agolpan como queriendo imponerse una sobre otra.
Sin embargo, como un pensamiento intrusivo y constante una idea desplaza cualquier otra: la amenaza cercana de un potente huracán a nuestro archipiélago. En particular, peligra la región oriental de Cuba, donde vivo.
Quienes habitamos las islas del Caribe, sufrimos este tipo de organismo tropical casi cada año.
Asumimos en parte que es una especie de elevada renta que la naturaleza nos cobra por disfrutar del clima cálido y playas transparentes y hermosas, que nos invitan al disfrute.
Por experiencias anteriores, sabiduría popular, pero sobre todo por el acceso a información científica actualizada, aprendimos a entender estos eventos climáticos, sus categorías y posible desarrollo.
Tan pronto aparece un ciclón tropical por nuestra zona o como un punto rojo en el Océano Atlántico, activamos los mecanismos que hemos incorporado para protegernos.
Mientras las personas aseguran las puertas, techos y ventanas de sus viviendas, o identifican hacia qué lugar seguro se trasladarán, el tema se impone en la conversación de una cola para adquirir productos básicos o en la esquina de la calle.
El cubano común conoce ya sobre conceptos, comportamientos y fraseología de los organismos climáticos. Y suele aventurarse a predecir trayectorias y comparar con fenómenos anteriores. Se comparten estadísticas de la recurrencia de huracanes por acá.
Los especialistas suelen vigilar el clima en cada temporada ciclónica que abarca de junio a noviembre, desde la perspectiva científica, para evitar que los huracanes nos tomen por sorpresa.
Los meteorólogos prefieren siempre anunciar buenas noticias. Pero, se deben conformar con lo que la naturaleza insiste en darnos. El argot de esta esfera del conocimiento ha acuñado en la categoría de “buen tiempo” las condiciones de un día soleado, con poca nubosidad y sin lluvias.
La predicción de los fenómenos climáticos constituye el desafío que mueve no pocas investigaciones en el mundo. Por lo general, y como lógica consecuencia, mientras mayores daños causan los eventos atmosféricos, crece también la voluntad y la dedicación de los expertos para caracterizarlos, darles clasificación y nombre, e intentar determinar en qué momento o bajo qué circunstancias se repetirán.
Los huracanes son los fenómenos naturales que afectan con regularidad al archipiélago cubano. Los ciudadanos actúan en las escuelas, centros laborales y viviendas personales de acuerdo con diferentes fases decretadas por la Defensa Civil. Y, esta se rige a partir de los reportes y pronósticos de modelos de institutos internacionales y del país.
La conformación de planes de emergencia se suma hasta completar un sistema de trabajo que aspira a minimizar los daños, tanto de vidas humanas como de bienes personales y recursos de la nación.
La Meteorología no es solo esa ciencia que predice la ocurrencia de precipitaciones, sol intenso o altas temperaturas.
También se dedica a estudiar fenómenos que afectan a la humanidad y deterioran sus bienes. El reto seguirá siendo determinar cuándo y dónde asomarán su faz amenazante y destructora.
Este post en particular se ha vuelto liberador, catártico, porque en medio de las previsiones por un ciclón tropical asustarse no garantiza protección. Salimos a la calle hasta el último instante si no corremos peligro. La información y la calma son nuestras primeras y principales cartas de triunfo.

On the Eve of a Hurricane

These days we are living with the anxiety of feeling threatened by a hurricane. Each experience is different, depending on where we are located. I have started several posts,with the enthusiasm that being on #Hive inspires in me. But the experiences I want to share pile up, as if each one is trying to impose itself over the others. However,like an intrusive and constant thought, one idea displaces all others: the imminent threat of a powerful hurricane to our archipelago. The eastern region of Cuba, where I live, is in particular danger.
Those of us who inhabit the Caribbean islands suffer from this type of tropical organism almost every year. We partly accept it as a kind of high rent that nature charges us for enjoying the warm climate and the transparent, beautiful beaches that invite us to relax. From past experiences,popular wisdom, but above all from access to updated scientific information, we have learned to understand these climatic events, their categories, and possible development.
As soon as a tropical cyclone appears in our area or as a red dot in the Atlantic Ocean, we activate the mechanisms we have incorporated to protect ourselves. While people secure the doors,roofs, and windows of their homes, or identify which safe place they will move to, the topic dominates conversations, whether in a queue to buy basic goods or on a street corner.
The average Cuban is already familiar with the concepts, behaviors, and phraseology of climatic organisms. And they often venture to predict trajectories and compare them with past phenomena. Improvised statistics about hurricane recurrence here are common. Specialists constantly monitor the weather during each hurricane season,which runs from June to November, from a scientific perspective, to prevent hurricanes from taking us by surprise.
Meteorologists always prefer to announce good news. But, they must settle for what nature insists on giving us. The jargon of this field of knowledge has coined the category of "good weather" for conditions of a sunny day, with little cloud cover and no rain. Predicting climatic phenomena is the challenge that drives numerous research projects worldwide.Generally, and as a logical consequence, the greater the damage caused by atmospheric events, the more the experts' will and dedication grow to characterize them, classify and name them, and try to determine when or under what circumstances they will repeat.
Hurricanes are the natural phenomena that regularly affect the Cuban archipelago. Citizens act in schools, workplaces, and personal homes according to different phases decreed by the country's Civil Defense. And this body is governed by the reports and forecasts from models of international and national institutes.
The development of emergency plans is added until a work system is completed, which aims to minimize damage, both to human lives and to personal property and the nation's resources. Meteorology is not just that science which predicts the occurrence of rainfall,intense sun, or high temperatures.
It is also dedicated to studying phenomena that affect humanity and deteriorate its assets. The challenge will always be to determine when and where they will show their threatening and destructive face.
This particular post has become liberating, cathartic, because in the midst of preparations for a tropical cyclone, being scared does not guarantee protection. We go out into the street until the last moment. Information and calm are our first and main trump cards.
