How Did We Get Here?

Our generation has normalised so many things which aren’t normal in todays world. Gone were the days when kids were raised to become responsible people in the future, now things have changed a lot. Thanks to technology and the concept of modernisation, we don’t even know who we are anymore.  It’s no doubt that people change and humans evolve as that’s what is expected of us. But who would have thought that evolution would take a bad turn. We all thought evolution of humanity would turn out to be something great but honestly, I think this story is nothing to write home about. There are actually so many things that have been normalized in our world today which supposed to be the closed to normal. Among the lot, one gets me rethinking about life and our choices as individuals. And this one thing is none other than teenage pregnancy- not the kind where someone was being forced to get pregnant or something. I mean consensual teenage pregnancy. Let’s be honest ,most grown up today take a lot of time in deciding how many kids they want and also spacing them well. And so, if an older person who is very stable and all goes to all these lengths, what gives a 13 or 15 years old child with no job or stability whatsoever the mindset to just go and get themselves pregnant. Sometimes when I see young people in such state I wonder what went wrong. Is it the home or these kids are just stubborn. Regardless of the answer, this shouldn’t be something that should be seen as normal. It’s more like how HIV has become a normal thing. Our children, sisters and cousins are ruining their lives all in the name of having fun and even peer pressure and nothing seems to be done about this situation and it’s really getting out of hand. Parents are even pushing their kids to get pregnant for rich men so they can trap them with pregnancy. Sadly, these children end up crying ask suffering more than the babies they end up having.  It’s high time we put a stop to this madness and set the record straight for our young ones. Teenage pregnancy should not be a normal thing. Young girls and boys have a whole life ahead of them, there’s a lot they are yet to explore and so let’s not cut that short because of teenage pregnancy.
