What Keeps Me Grounded

Life is an unending journey of learning , unlearning and relearning and each day, we make an effort to learn something and be better individuals. Growing up, I wouldn’t say my parents were very strict, but they brought us up in a way that every child should be brought up. ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmWKktHHTooYBCcLKagB2m2phzd1ExUdcgrf1ovBpTTzQt/img_4243.jpg) We were raised to go for what we really want and aim for the best. But what made all this much better and made us who we are today is the values that were being instilled in us. Our home was no place for fight, disrespect, lying or petty insults. We knew the do and don’ts in the one and why they were set that way. Growing up, I learnt that everyone deserves to be respected no matter who they are or what they have. Respect they say is reciprocal and you mostly get what you give. One value that guides me in everything I do is respect. No matter how someone tries to disrespect, I try my best to respect them so that when they go back home at the end of they day, they will reflect on that encounter and learn from it. That’s a subtle way of making an impact and teaching people. Also, I’m a very terrible lair because I didn’t grow up lying. I always tell my friend that I have no reason to lie no matter the situation and at my age, no one is going to beat me for not telling the truth. I wouldn’t lie for anything or anyone because I know that lying can cause someone to lose trust in you and trust when broke is very difficult to rebuild. ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmTrqVSJxp7BiGdnGT9h7vFaZy943X89F96RXA3EU68QPh/32589446_f48a_4869_a6e0_84083396012d.jpeg) Next, I would say discipline is what tops it all for for. I grew up in a home where discipline was our bedrock. We were allowed to be children and do whatever we wanted to do, but we were also made to be disciplined in all we do. I really appreciated this training when I moved away from home. I had no one to remind me of the important things in my life or even keep track of my habits. I was slowly slipping but I found myself in the process and came back up stronger. Life without values is a life of possible doom because you just do whatever comes to your mind with no sort of judgement or thought whatsoever. Life is meant to be lived well and that’s why we all need to have values to keep us on track. - - - all images to me. - - - ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmWV2JS3Yw4jDeXprCyjDXPQVfc9M3c8LCmrRb9TyPc4aH/faa7860b_1fc3_4ac6_864c_90a273d80133.jpeg)
