I think that it's a universal fact where holidays run at twice the usual speed to real life.
We are four days in already and it feels like nothing even though we have already done so much here. Holidays with kids is a different vibe to everything that we have done before and while not bad is a lot harder.
Yesterday we visited Loro Parque which is rated as the number one zoo in Europe. This took an early start an a 1.5 hour bus ride each way which is never easy with kids. I have to say though how well behaved our two have been so far this week. For a three and a six year old there is a lot to see and do which isn't easy but they have been great. No tantrums, no hassle just a bit of extra excitement and a lot of tiredness.
It's definitely not the best zoo that I have ever been to. We have two better just in Ireland so I don't know how they are the top rated.
Animals are limited in number and type with the zoo being fitted into a small area in the north of the island.
Wit that said it's a great day out for a family. What they don't have in numbers they make up for in the shows.
We saw shows for;
- Dolphins
- Orcas
- Sealions
and didn't fit in the one with the birds.
They were top quality and so much fun. It's up to you whether you sit in the splash zones or not but the orca can really fire water into the crowd.
We caught a taste of it but some people got the full wave over their heads.
Similar for the other two shows we sat near the front and had a great view of everything that went on with the animals being so well trained and entertaining. Worth the visit for that alone.
We did all the usual bits and got a few souvenirs for the family before the long bus back to home.
This was the first evening we were back at a decent time so we could take full advantage of the airbnb which comes with an outdoor hot tub that is very relaxing after a long day with the kids.
A proper holiday night and a few beers.
