Silchester, a lovely evening walk

Hi folks, how are we keeping? It has been a gorgeous day today, I thought I should share some photos from this evening and a walk around one of our favourite places locally. This isn’t an official #churchproject post because, I’ve already covered this location a number of times before. However the light was wonderful and there is a lot of interest around this old Roman wall.

Lets take a little tour!

I love this old tree and wonder how old it actually is? The Roman wall that is penetrated through has been there since 43AD, is the tree as old as that? It’s a Yew and they can live for a very long time but I couldn’t confirm whether this one was as old as the Roman era or had broken through the wall at a later time.

Plenty of walking routes here, including the circular route around Silchester itself and the famous Camino or St James way as it’s also known locally.

Loved this view of St Marys church peeking over the wall.

Nature’s bounty - Crab Apples and Sloe.

Finally; various photos the lovely church.

One of my favourite places on earth.
