Hi dear friends! Today I’m here with something very exciting – HEALTHY HOMEMADE VEGAN NUTELLA.
Mhm, you read that right! This is Nutella with base of hazelnut butter and added chocolate to get that Nutella flavour. It’s super rich in flavour with smooth and creamy consistency. You only need 4 simple ingredients and about 30 minutes to make.
This hazelnut spread tastes just like I remember Nutella tasting. I haven’t had it in about 2 years though sooo... But I guarantee you this tastes A M A Z I N G. I feel like I say this for every single one of my recipe but believe me, this one is incredibly delicious.
Okay, so I just went and had a spoonful of it and it does taste like Nutella. Believe me, it does, my memory is pretty good, I remember what Nutella tastes like. I made this yesterday and half of it is already gone sooo.. I also smelled the real Nutella earlier and it smells the same. Also, I can tell how food tastes just by smelling it. Like, I don’t even have to taste something to know what it tastes like. Anyone else?
Have you ever seen what real Nutella is made of?
Almost half of it is sugar, lots of oil and a small amount of hazelnuts. Definitely not a health food.
This homemade vegan Nutella is different. The main ingredients are hazelnuts and there is a minimal amount of sugar (only the one from chocolate, so the amount of sugar depends on what chocolate you use, I recommend using dark one, with about 80-90% cacao content). There’s also minimal amount of added oil and even the one that is comes from coconut oil.
To make this Nutella, I first roasted some hazelnuts in the oven. Roasting them really brings out that strong hazelnut flavour we are looking for. I also find that roasted nuts take way less time to blend them into nut butter than raw nuts.
You can use this chocolate hazelnut spread on top of pancakes, spread on bread, on top of oatmeal and smoothie bowls, or just it on its own like I am right now.
Now, lets get to the part we are all waiting for - the recipe ;)
HEALTHY HOMEMADE VEGAN NUTELLA 🍫🌰
| INGREDIENTS
- 300 g hazelnuts
- 80 g dark chocolate
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- hazelnut milk*
| METHOD
1/ Preheat the oven to 180°C.
2/ On a baking tray lined with parchment paper add hazelnuts. Spread them around and roast in the oven for about 12 minutes.
3/ Once baked, let them cool down, then remove the skins from hazelnuts. I did that by rubbing them between my hands. It’s okay if some of the skins are still on, just make sure to remove most of them.
4/ Transfer to a food processor and blend until you get smooth and creamy hazelnut butter. It should take no longer than about 5 minutes.
5/ In the meantime, add chocolate, coconut oil and maple syrup in a medium bowl and melt in a water bath.
6/ Add melted chocolate to the hazelnut butter. Blend for about 3 minutes until everything is combined and the nutella is smooth and creamy.
7/ Transfer to a jar and store at room temperature for up to a few weeks (if you manage to keep it that long).
| NOTES
*ONLY add hazelnut milk if not creamy enough. I did not add any this time because it was already super creamy and smooth without it.
I hope you enjoyed today's recipe and will give this healthy nutella heaven a try. Have a wonderful rest of the day!
