“We come to you live from the TNN (Total News Network) wire and it seems that the scientists at Life Surge Labs have figured out a way to commune with other life! Unprecedented! Can you imagine being able to talk to your dog or cat or understanding what the birds are singing about!?! Have you ever wondered what your plant was ‘thinking’? What about that mushroom you stepped on while you were hiking through those trees – that were maybe singing about the clouds?!?
They are calling the prototype device a Personal Intercommunication Modulator, or – **PIM** for short. The wearable contraption will allow you to tune to any plants', animals' or even protists' and fungi's frequency of language and actually decipher what they are transmitting. It’s like a complex unraveled version of radio waves we’ve never thought available – until now.
The coincidental discovery came about while they were diligently searching for a new way to harness the capabilities of sound and its different frequencies. Primarily, the possible effects it would or could have on (and counteract) the gravitational pull of a celestial body. The ultimate goal, was to create a device or method that could give humans a giant leap into interstellar travel. A new methodology to traverse the stars that is eco-friendly. Make no mistake, that dream is still alive and well, and will continue to be pursued.

That was 5 years ago. Since then, PIMs have been modified drastically allowing people to breech language barriers never thought possible in today's day and age. On top of bridging language barriers between people themselves, we have unlocked the ability to understand all life we know of. It's just a matter of tuning to the proper frequency.
Here's how it works. Once you get close to a biological entity or organism, the ping from the PIM will notify you and the closer you get, the more easily understood they become. The automatic frequency tuner allows you to start understanding what have popularly become known as '**NISMs**'.
By communicating with something other than a human - a **NISM** - and adding it to the codex library in your PIM, you ‘discover’ what everyone calls a **NISM**, each having unique characteristics in their own way. Much like the way a human's DNA makes us all individuals. This is done by a complete biometric genetic scan of the organism. The digital information can then be used at will and people can have their **NISM** physically printed instantly in virtually any location, and they will be every bit the same as the one you originally discovered.
NISMs have begun to help humanity to evolve and really taken on a whole new aspect of how people view, understand and appreciate life. Some people have gone so far as to make friends with all sorts of creatures, flora, funga, and fauna alike. They even have NISM beauty pageants and contests of all sorts for the public eye with their besties!
Sadly, some have also abused the technology and turned it into a money making machine by capturing and tricking some of the critters into battling in unsanctioned pit fights with their **NISMs** while others are purposely capturing them to sell them on both public and private markets.
