Greetings, Hive Argentina community! Welcome to my post once again. I'm Nitsu, and today I want to share with you a little getaway I took with a friend to Villa Devoto. We had seen a guided tour of some tunnels in this neighborhood that really interested us, so we made a reservation and set off on our adventure.
Saludos comunidad de Hive Argentina, bienvenidos a mi post una vez más, soy Nitsu y hoy quiero compartirles sobre una pequeña escapada que hice junto a una amiga a Villa Devoto, nosotros habíamos visto una visita guiada por unos túneles de este barrio que nos interesó muchísimo, así que reservamos y nos mandamos a la aventura.
The trip to Villa Devoto was a bit long, but I must say that I enjoyed the whole journey looking at the urban landscape and admiring the houses and buildings. Once I arrived in this neighborhood, I felt like I was in another world. Despite being within the city and far away, it has something very unique. It feels almost familiar because the vast majority of the houses are old but in very good condition, added to which there is an inexplicable luxury in this type of architecture, combined with the vegetation that is so sorely missed in big cities.
El viaje hasta Villa Devoto fue un poco largo pero debo decir que disfrute todo el viaje mirando el paisaje urbano y disfrutando de las casas y edificios, una vez llegue a este barrio me sentí en otro mundo, a pesar de estar dentro de la ciudad y alejado tiene algo muy único, se siente casi familiar debido a que la gran mayoría de las casas son antiguas pero en muy buen estado sumado a que hay un lujo inexplicable en este tipo de arquitectura sumado a la vegetación que tanto se añora en las grandes ciudades.
After arriving at the central square, we met up with the group we would be touring with, and our guide began to tell us a little about the history of the neighborhood, the park, the most important points of interest, and the areas we would be visiting. This neighborhood is known as the city's garden and is named after Antonio Devoto, a wealthy Italian immigrant who acquired this land back in the 1880s. The streets are lined with beautiful old trees, lovely gardens, and very quiet streets due to the low traffic in the area, adding many points to it being a place without as much noise as in the more central area.
Tras llegar a la plaza central encontramos al grupo con el cual realizaríamos la excursión, nuestro guía comenzó a contarnos un poco de la historia del barrio, del parque, los puntos más importantes y las zonas que visitaríamos. Este barrio es conocido como el jardín de la ciudad y su nombre es debido a Antonio Devoto que fue un acaudalado inmigrante italiano que adquirió estas tierras por allá de los años 1880, las calles están repletas de arboles añosos hermosos, lindos jardines y calles muy tranquilas debido al poco transito de la zona sumando muchos puntos a ser un lugar sin tanto ruido como en la zona más céntrica

The first place we visited was the church. From the outside, despite being imposing, it didn't seem that big, but inside you could appreciate the beauty of the architecture, the details, the stained glass windows, all the time and money invested in it, added to the fact that it has catacombs where Antonio Devoto is buried along with his first and second wives. Here below, you could see the tombs along with the plans of the church and a scale model of another church that I don't remember if it was one they wanted to build in the area or a replica of a European church.
El primer lugar que visitamos fue la iglesia, por fuera a pesar de ser imponente no parecía tan grande pero por dentro podía apreciarse la belleza de la arquitectura, los detalles, los vitrales, todo el tiempo y dinero invertido sumado a que tiene unas catacumbas donde esta enterrado Antonio Devoto junto con su primer y segunda esposa, aquí debajo podían verse las tumbas junto con los planos de la iglesia y una maqueta a escala de otra iglesia que no recuerdo si era una que querían construir por la zona o una replica de una iglesia Europea.

After leaving here, they took us to a former convent. Strangely, they made us stop for 15 minutes for a talk that was very boring and impossible to understand. It really broke with the style of the tour, added to the fact that a lot of time had already passed and we still hadn't seen the tunnels. But after this talk, we went to a library and that's where the tour of the convent's tunnels began. I really thought it was going to be much better, but I can't deny that it was interesting.
Tras salir de aquí nos llevaron a un ex convento, extrañamente nos hicieron detenernos durante 15 minutos para una charla que fue muy aburrida y no se entendía nada, realmente rompió mucho con el estilo de la excursión sumado a que ya había pasado mucho tiempo y todavía no habíamos visto los túneles per tras terminar esta charla fuimos a una biblioteca y ahí comenzó el paseo por los túneles de este convento, realmente pensé que iba a ser algo muchísimo mejor pero no niego que estuvo interesante.

My friend and I moved around with the flashlights on our cell phones, observing everything that was down there. Some tunnels had collapsed over time, others led to other rooms, and others were just closed passages. There were many abandoned things, such as an old wagon, hundreds of books, old furniture, doors, and countless other items that had been left behind over the years.

My friend and I had gone prepared for a great excursion through the Devoto tunnels, which in the end was just a title they gave the excursion to make it sound more interesting, although it had little or nothing to do with that. Despite this, I enjoyed myself and was able to take some beautiful photos. This was my adventure, and I learned a lot, although I left with a bitter taste in my mouth. Thank you for reading.
