Changing Mindsets, Changing Futures

There are tremendous changes in the educational system of my country nowadays. Gone are the days when females are limited to getting educated. Gone are the days when boys were the main focus; boys were trained to occupy important positions in our society, and they were given kingship respect like mini gods, while females were kept at home, limiting their potential to kitchen duties and home management. ![IMG-20250812-WA0005.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/nkemakonam89/AJg911rm71uhrD4ddNHdDmx7P75srsQRHCyYWmQr2Qy3ZuRzgTRKE6APXxboUdJ.jpg) ***** In those days, there was a cultural belief affecting the education mentality of our people. If a female is sent to school, they consider it a wasted investment. Why? Because they believe that women's education ends in the kitchen. Some of our fathers then also believe that training a girl child in school means training the person for the future husband, and how does it help them? ***** It is unfortunate that females suffered a lack of education back then; they suffered illiteracy due to one belief, and today some of our aged mothers are still suffering the negative effects of not being educated. They can't read or write; you will send an alert for my grandma, and she can't read the message on her phone until you call her to tell her of the alert . My uncle married from another tribe, and it's been a hassle for my grandma to communicate with her daughter-in-law, and in many other situations, they are still suffering to date for not going to school back then. ![IMG-20250812-WA0003.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/nkemakonam89/AKbETh3Lgrfv5BQAc8R2prt5SbajortebAyfnEmkjCYmgr4tKiVzXLqSvQptq2w.jpg) ***** My mum's dad had the same mentality and stopped my mum from going to school, but then she married very early at age 12 back then, and her husband, my own dad, sent her to school until she finished her primary level...today she is working in a local government with the primary school certificate. ***** Now, the educational system of our country has changed; everyone can reach their potential, whether you are a boy or girl, as long as you can afford the cost. Both male and female now occupy sensitive positions in the country due to how much they are educated. In banks, women are regional managers; in top companies, women are MDs—no limit as long as you are a quality resource person. I am loving this change. If money is not an object, nothing can limit me from going far education-wise and achieving my dreams. ***** These days, females are even more in population in schools; that's to tell you that we are evolving for good, although there are still some hawking, learning skills, not because they don't want to go to school but because their parents lack resources. Many go into trading; others learn handwork just to make ends meet, but overall, we have left that era where female education is a problem. ![IMG-20250812-WA0004.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/nkemakonam89/AKcfxeB1iLGQEv6ygvVkUv7mwMWJH7wtj44m2Q4F9CtWHCNu1deqa1HehaQDHxD.jpg) ***** Females no longer end up in the kitchen as we were being regarded in the past. We now live our dreams beyond the kitchen; we pursue our education to the farthest we can go and even travel abroad for more education and a better living. It's a win-win. *This post is in response to the #HiveLearners prompt on the topic titled*, **Getting Educated**. ***Images were generated using meta Ai***
