I received a call from a friend yesterday that got me so teary. It took her more than an hour to explain to me in detail what she has been through lately, and I couldn't stop wishing that our men and women would learn to do things rightly for their own good and the good of their family at large.

The last time I checked, no one on this earth owns his or her life but God. Life is so unpredictable that a healthy man today can be on life support tomorrow. It's so unpredictable that healthy people can step out for their usual daily activities and unfortunately meet their death on their way. It happens every now and then; even yesterday, two innocent people were killed by a Dangote trailer on the highway. I witnessed this tragedy live, and not that they say it, it's sad!

That's, by the way, about the call from this friend. She said that suddenly, her husband started complaining of headaches consistently after taking medications without any change, and she advised him to go check his BP. The man kept saying, "Tomorrow, I will, I will." The next thing after two days was that he collapsed at home, and she screamed for help, and neighbors assisted in rushing him to the hospital. At this point, the man was already unconscious and pooing blood uncontrollably.

Surprisingly, the doctor in the hospital said that until 1 million naira is deposited, he dares not treat this man in a terrible health condition battling for his life. All efforts to plead with the doctor proved abortive; meanwhile, the wife, my friend, said her own husband has millions of naira in his account, but since he was unconscious, she has no access to the money to save his life. Then on her own account, she has just #20,000, which is almost nothing compared to the deposit that is being asked for before her husband will be attended to.

Imagine having millions of naira in your account capable of saving your life, but your wife can't help you, and neither can you talk to disclose the PIN. That was a terrible situation. The wife had to start making calls, calling friend upon friend who she feels is capable of raising such money instantly to save her husband's life, and fortunately, she was lucky to receive such help almost immediately. The man was on life support for three days before he became conscious again with many complications. It was a long story; she sent me pictures of the husband's situation. It was very terrible; I couldn't behold it longer and had it deleted. God really saved the man; he tested death but survived it.
And then, I ask, what is the big deal about men or women giving their spouses their bank PIN and every detail they need to know just in case? Sadly, this is how banks keep using the money of dead people to run business for years, and no one will claim such money. I know of a woman whose husband died, and she kept suffering financially because she had no information about the husband's wealth. Meanwhile, the husband did not only have plenty of money saved in the bank but also had assets scattered everywhere, according to the story anyway.
*****
I may not have much personally, but whatever I have, my husband knows and has the pin or keys. This is because I do not own my life. As long as I pray for good health and long life, there is still the need for everyone to do things right because life is unpredictable. It won't be nice that strangers enjoy my money while my family are being denied their right when I am no more.

We can get things done in the right way, please, even if it means giving strict instructions; some secrets are simply a disaster in the long run.
