People neglect little things that matter, and I wonder why. Perhaps it's because we are humans that see things differently. Even our different ways of upbringing say a lot about how we see life, right? Just maybe, but I feel it has influence on us. Take for instance, in my home, Mum made us always appreciate little kindnesses shown to us by anyone. It doesn't matter how tiny that kindness seems to be; just welcome it with your heart and be sure to express your gratitude to the giver, Mum said.

It was a lifestyle I learned through her. In fact, he made my siblings and me embrace this kind of moral to date. You won't only appreciate the person that shows you kindness, either through a monetary gift or any other kind of kindness, but let her know about it so she can also appreciate the person, especially if it's someone she knows or can speak with via the phone.

Come to think of it, it doesn't take anything to appreciate people, but deep down, we must be the grateful type to be able to acknowledge kindness from people. Who knows, an appreciation for a little thing received might pave the way for another. That's human beings for you; people love to see that you appreciate them, and that can motivate them to do more for you next time if available. Even God himself is moved when you praise him for the good thing he did for you, and of course, praising God can open a new door for more blessings.

While I am saying all these things, when I was leaving Lagos for Enugu on Thursday last week, I went to GUO transport service a day before I traveled to board a bus for my son and me and two other friends of mine going to the same state on the same day. Our bill was #41,000 each, and that should be a total of #164,000, but surprisingly, the lady who attended to me made a mistake and gave me #144,000 bill instead. I didn't notice this until the minutes we were almost boarding to Enugu. I was like, no, I had to draw her attention to such a mistake, and I met her to let her know, and she said, "Transfer the #20,000 balance to our account immediately," just like that, nothing like, "Oh...thank you," just nothing.

What if I didn't have a good conscience to do the right thing? Perhaps she would use her salary to pay the shortage during their accounting and balancing. But it's fine; I transferred the #20,000 immediately and went to our bus, but on second thought, I decided to go back to her and teach her how to be grateful for little things, lol, Politely, I made her realize that she should have just said a simple thank you and not casually commanded me to transfer the balance. I didn't go far, but the little words I dropped to get her heart touched her, I felt, due to her soft reaction afterwards.
Overall, little things matter; a little thank you for that little kindness you received can make a difference. I don't believe in ignoring little things; I am deliberate about gratitude.
