Passion or Profit: What Drives Us Today?

I would love to start by saying that finding fulfillment is not just about wealth creation but about impact! Nowadays, it looks like the world is gradually turning into a market place where every target is on profit. Passion and genuine love for jobs are fading away day by day and being replaced with money. Yeah, the struggle to survive the economy is real. It's quite understandable that people no longer consider passion but how to survive, yet it doesn't justify some actions. It's all about the drive to make more money and not to impact, cure, or serve. ![20251104_140229_0000.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/nkemakonam89/23zGeiPVLV6Sinc62z8D4G1QpgsXsFbGFf5MbQoKjgYNv87DsXYH5hGNdSuy4EKrYqLLp.png) ***** Look around you and notice that schools, hospitals, and even churches now run more like businesses than the main services for which they established the organization to render in the first place. Everyone is working towards filling their pockets, and it's quite questionable. Basically, everyone is working to have a better life, which isn't out of place, but is it possible that we switch to working because we love what we do and not because we are after money? Can we really go back to that time if there was a time like that? Where has human passion and love gone? It's okay to pursue profit so we can live comfortably, but trust me, we thrive more in jobs we have passion for; the people we are serving will be positively affected too, while we still make our money, it's a win-win. ***** I remember a time when most hospitals showed more empathy rather than pursuing profit first. Those days, it's all about saving lives first; at least get the patient to be stabilized first before coming up with bills, but it's a different ball game now. Hospitals now operate like business ventures, and I wonder if they still remember the oath they take. Patients lose their lives carelessly simply because they couldn't make a deposit first to be attended to; it's sad! ![20251104_140623_0000.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/nkemakonam89/23ynQ5oh58kN8mt2iABFJ4x2ncymbHBCRgb1v7LzVxc3dTpzLPVNZBi13g4T4UyyWXXED.png) ***** I remember blogging about one of my friend's husbands and how he nearly died over the 1m naira deposit the hospital demanded while he kept bleeding non-stop. Even in such a critical situation, the hospital insisted that until 1 million naira was deposited, no single treatment would be given to him. C'mon, can a dead man make a transfer? It was a situation I don't like remembering, but it is what it is. Schools aren't excluded from these business ventures; everyone is just after their profit and not the supposed impact. It's simple because we lost passion and love along the line. I personally respected teachers because of their impact in shaping the futures of tomorrow, touching lives positively, but these days, things are just upside down with most schools. Schools now use different strategies to draw parents to themselves with ridiculous prices, not necessarily because they genuinely impact the learners; it's all about money, money, money!!! ***** Even in the music and entertainment industry, where passion should thrive, they are all drifting. Most people no longer have that connection with people through their talent but do things anyhow and make it go viral just to earn money, achieve success, and go away. Maybe, finding our way back will start by discovering our purpose first rather than profit. Imagine when a teacher helps a child discover his or her potential, imagine when a doctor handles patients with empathy, and the list goes on. Humanity will take a new shape for good, and that's why I started this post by saying that finding fulfillment is not just about wealth creation but about impact! ![20251104_144035_0000.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/nkemakonam89/23tbwVMRWWwL35zJt9gv72aufzwt73kn45a9f3Jq7c5grEksgdqXWrzqedDsY9j8ThFtZ.png) ***** Again, teaching our children the need to uphold integrity seems like a great way out as well. Imagine when they grow with the mindset of doing things right even when no one is seeing them? It will surely be a plus. ***Images were taken from canva***
