Alys, my eldest daughter, who is in second grade, had her first language assessment last week. The weekend before, we reviewed a little of what her teacher would be testing her on, which was identifying consonants, completing words, and writing the alphabet. She didn't want to study much because it was easy and she had practiced a lot in class. I respected her decision so as not to overwhelm her, and from time to time I asked her questions about it. I told her that if she did well, I would give her a prize.  The exam was canceled on Monday due to rain but rescheduled for the following day. When the day of the exam arrived, I dropped her off at school, wished her luck, and hoped that everything would go well. I was worried because we hadn't practiced much, as she didn't want to. To my surprise, she did very well, getting a score of 20 points. When I got home from work, she ran to tell me, exam in hand, and immediately said she wanted ice cream as a reward.  That same evening, after finishing my other daughter Abby's reading and speech therapy classes, we went to an ice cream shop very close to home. Not only would Alys get ice cream for her achievement, but her little sister would too. They chose strawberry and bubble gum ice cream cones in a cup with chocolate syrup. I chose a pistachio and peanut ice cream cone with the same syrup because I was also going to celebrate with them. They were delicious, by the way. I could only see their faces full of joy and ice cream.   I like to celebrate every achievement of my daughters, no matter how small or big it is. It encourages them to be better every day, both at school and in other activities. Alys is a very intelligent and hard-working girl at school. She deserves ice cream and more. Alys mi hija mayor quién se encuentra cursando el segundo grado de primaria tuvo su primer evaluativo de lenguaje la semana pasada, el fin de semana previo repasamos un poco lo que evaluaría su maestra, los cuáles eran identificar las consonantes, completar las palabras y escribir el abecedario, ella no quería estudiar mucho porque era sencillo y además había practicado mucho en clases, respeté su decisión para no saturar sus conocimientos y de vez en cuando le hacía alguna pregunta al respecto, le mencioné que si salía bien le daría un premio.
El examen fue suspendido el lunes por lluvia pero pautado para el día siguiente, cuando llegó el día del examen, cuando la dejé en el colegio, le deseé éxitos y que todo saliera excelente, yo estaba preocupada ya que no habíamos practicado mucho porque así lo quiso ella, para mi sorpresa le fue excelente, obtuvo una calificación de 20 puntos y cuándo llegue del trabajo fue corriendo a decírmelo con su examen en la mano, inmediatamente mencionó que quería un helado como regalo.
Ese mismo día por la noche, luego de cumplir con sus clases de lectura y terapia del lenguaje de mi otra hija Abby, fuimos hasta una heladería que queda muy cerca de casa, no solo comería helado Alys por su logro también su hermanita, eligeron conos de helados de fresa y de chicle vertidos en un vaso, con sirope de chocolate, para mi elegí una barquilla de pistacho y maní con el mismo sirope, porque también iba a celebrar con ellas dos, estaban riquísimos por cierto, solo podía ver sus caritas llenas de alegría y helado.
Me gusta celebrar cada logro de mis hijas no importa que tan pequeño o grande sea, es incentivar a que sean mejor cada día, tanto en la escuela como en el resto de las actividades, Alys es una niña muy inteligente y aplicada en la escuela, merece un helado y más, su hermana y yo siempre la motivaremos a ser mejor.
