The topic is how easy or difficult it is to make more money in your country. My country is Italy, a magical land, rich in so many things: food, wine, agriculture, tourism, history, nature, art, architecture, etc. After the end of the war, Italy was a prosperous nation that was recovering and creating an empire of economic well-being that would last until about the 1990s. Those were the years of what they called the economic boom, where it was really easy to make money if you had the right idea, but where there were also easily granted loans and mortgages, early retirements, poorly drafted business laws, and politicians who created laws that benefited them. The result is that Italy is no longer the country of the economic boom; it is a country where people struggle to make ends meet, where inflation is sky-high and shopping becomes almost a luxury. It is a country full of unemployed and exploited workers with wages that are too low and prices that are too high. It is a country where young people struggle to leave their homes, find rent, or start a family because everything costs too much. The good life has long since ended in my dear nation.

Salaries are so low that people often take odd jobs to supplement their income, just to pay the umpteenth bill or to at least take a short vacation. It's no longer the golden country of the 1980s. Today, winning the lottery seems to be the only way to make more money. Even starting your own business is risky. Taxes for businesses are high, and there are few incentives for those who want to start a business, and it's expensive. Even brains are draining from here: doctors, researchers, and those with a good degree often flee abroad, because today, not even a good degree in Italy guarantees you a good, well-paying job. It's a truly difficult time for those who want to earn more. I see few solutions at the moment unless politics changes its tune. Italians are finding it increasingly difficult to make good until the end of the month. If politics doesn't change, I don't see a bright future for my country. The Bella vita ended a long time ago, now all we have to do is survive.
