A stunning summer's day!
While hanging in Lunenburg one can sometimes think there is little activity going on, but just taking today as an example there was a km or so rowing in and out from Makina to come and go to shore; as well as over a km or more walk to bag some supplies. It goes back to my theory that just living on a boat leads to extended exercising. Then, on the relaxing side, after returning to Makina had a prolonged and relaxing afternoon nappy.
OK, with that out of the way....
The SOC (electric State of Charge) was heading to the mid-90% so decided to charge things up before going ashore. It took a couple of shots at starting the engine and then a very low SOC but quickly rising.
Looking more deeply into the stats it was noticed that the voltage charge was not the greatest even with SOC at 100%.
My conclusion is that one or some of the batteries may need replacing or perhaps an acid tune up in the engine battery. Top of the line batteries can have a 14+V charge and 10.5V or lower will cause an error in the electric interface on board. It settled out at about 11.5V going to 11.4V as the day progressed. My intention is to monitor voltage as opposed to the SOC to decide engine recharging.
Put out the word with the Zwicker Wharf Lads for the contact info for an electrician that a fellow cruiser, Mike, had been waiting for the night of experiencing inverse polarity from their electrical post.
Went to town for a shower and then grabbed a take out coffee and fresh loaf of bread from my new favorite cafe.
Headed out for cannabis supplies and also checked for invertors at the local hardware store as well as the NAPA auto shop. No luck.
Did make a good reconnaissance observation that the shipyard's gas dock now looks easier to dock at with the old Halifax ferry having been moved to the east end of the harbour.
Got back to Makina in the early afternoon and binged on YouTube and a nice lengthy nap as mentioned above.
With electric conservation underway after some Netflixing sleep soon was upon me.
