Sailing among the races

There was next to no wind. We ended in town. Had a wonderful breakfast and then went to the Yacht Club to see the races getting organized. Even they were reluctant to get out and bob around with no wind so the races were delayed. By about 13:00 the wind picked up to an acceptable level for the races to begin. As the races take place far out in the Bay, we headed back to Makina and just hung out, me reading on with The Lord of The Rings and Pierre doing some social media. He later went to town for a walk around and a beer at the local tavern. If 11:00 is a late night then we had one.

The wind was back this morning. We went to town for breakfast yet wasted no time in getting back and starting out into the bay. Once out there it was much more evident why they called this Race Week as there were numerous races, on numerous courses, with numerous classes of sailboats cutting through the waters of the bay.

We were loosely heading to Backman Island in the southeast of the bay, yet there were moments of dodging fleets of sails bearing down on us.

Course taken from Chester to Backman Island, Nova Scotia

By mid-afternoon most of the racers were on courses taking them back towards Chester. The Bay seemed ours at that point.

We made Backman Island around suppertime. It was a wonderful suggestion from Marc who we met in Lunenburg. The fellow who had met our buddy James in Bermuda.

Cooked up some spaghetti that seemed well received. The bunk is calling me.

May the wind be at your back!
