The Night of … 1632 Stranded
Type the first sentence with something in mind and see what flows.
The big story today is cancellations.
Text message this morning alerts us that our military brother is stuck in the Great White North, Canada that is. Air Canada flight canceled. I joke about Canada being a “third world country.”
“We are too,” reminds Number One Sister.
An hour later, I return to our small mansion with a, “Welcome to the third world.” Tomorrow’s perpetually late train to Miami … canceled.
The AI phone-bot is a cut & paste affair… “due to…” segue to a different AI vox, “service interruption,” then another AI vox… and so on.
I think it’s the weather. Hurricane Erin is hugging the eastern seaboard and while the storm is due to head out to sea, there is a risk of flooding. Wouldn’t want that. I can imagine a train full of humans, some on their way to Disney, or to meet a cruise, freaking out as the train is stuck in a big-ass puddle in Virginia.
I could use this as an excuse to rail (pardon the pun) about the failing infrastructure of the US, but why bother. I don’t know the intricacies of the situation and I’d only be stating stats that I couldn’t verify, so ta’ hell with it. Another couple of days here will bring some unexpected fortune. It usually does.
AI Mix Tapes?
I was wondering yesterday if these mixes I’ve been listening to are AI generated. I wasn’t the only one. I opened one mix and decided to scroll down to see if there was a track list. What I found was a comment asking if the music was AI generated. There was no reply.
Remember when VH-1, [screeeech – better explain for the young’ins’: VH-1 was a cable music video channel that wasn’t MTV. I think the VH stood for Video Hits, but check that.] Anyway, as a public relations campaign VH-1 launched this thing called “Save the Music.” It was ostensibly about keeping music classes in schools – or so I remember. That was when I knew school music programs were doomed.
There was a local radio station that launched a campaign called “Peace on the Streets.” Guess what. Same result. Maybe if they had put music in the streets. Quartets playing in the park. Corner boy jam sessions and lessons in recreation centers. Maybe things would have been different.
That’s it for today. Slow mellow Monday.
