BF Breakdown 01.jpg

Hey fellow Splinterfans! It's been a busy week again, so busy even I missed the deadline for this weeks Social Media Challenge so today I'm making this post to take part in this weeks Community Engagement Challenge, the theme this week is to make a Battlefield Breakdown about a battle or certain rule set combination.

It's like the Battlemage Secrets Challenge we had a couple of years back, and just for fun - I still have the thumbnails I made for the posts back then! This is one of them. 😁

Blog and earn!

So for players not participating in the challenges, you really should start! It's a nice way to earn some extra weekly rewards for you to spend to build up your Splinterlands account, I'm usually buying cards I want to strengthen my modern deck with but lately while the price of SPS is still very low (I consider everything below 1 cents a bargain) I'm buying some SPS weekly with my HBD earned from blogging.

TIP: Hive Keychain has a really good swap service for this!

When I started blogging, I was afraid my English wouldn't be good enough since it's not my native language, and I was convinced by my British friend @alberich to just start and so I did, and it turns out it's a good exercise as well, not only for my English but I also developed my knowledge about generating pictures with AI and picture editing.

Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Battlefield Breakdowns!

image.png

This weeks challenge is the same as last week, and that's not a problem at all with so many battles players have when they play consistenly.

📜 This Week’s Challenge:

Share one of your recent Splinterlands battles (win or lose).

Break down your card choices and key decisions.

Highlight what worked, what didn’t, and what you’d do differently next time.

Bonus: Point out any clever combos or counters you spotted from your opponent!

To find out how you can participate in this challenge yourself, check out the official Splinterlands post here

And be sure to post the links to your posts (also outside of hive, like Publish0x or X) in the comments before the deadline ends.

Sharing a Battle

The battle I saved is from yesterday I think, it's a 73 mana Modern League, Heavy Metal / What Doesn't Kill You / Heavy Hitters battle, but with Stun not being present in the current modern Silver meta I just ignore the last rule set. With so much mana available, you can expect some big boys to be played so this will be a fierce battle!

HEAVY METAL: You can only summon armored units.

So this limits the available cards we can use in our battles, I like to use Archons that can use the monsters from two splinters so I have more options to make teams with.

All units have Enrage (+50% melee power and speed if not at full health, rounded up).

  • The attack multiplier only affects melee units.
  • Units with Inspire will increase your melee attack; Demoralize will decrease your opponent's melee attack.

So when we combine these two rulesets, the second one is the most important: Melee units will get boosted damage while the first rule set only limits my options, also: When a unit is damaged it gets enraged so its speed also increases, making it harder to hit for your slower units, so it can be wise to use magic attackers so your attacks can't be dodged, to counter this play you can think about bringing units with the Void ability, so many options - as always and that's exactly what I like about Splinterlands!

First look at the battlefield:

image.png

A gold level team, so that immediately puts me at a level disadvantage, it's cool to see we both went for the same two tanks, using the Reach ability, my opponent used a card with the Void ability to counter my magic cards, good think my back line consists of some strong archers, plus I have a Legendary summoner so I can use tactics to steer the battle my way.

My Line-Up:

  • Archon: Risqruel Drath - reason: Combining two splinters, the boosts and tactics are really helpful as well.
  • First position: Drybone Megalodon - reason: High damage with Retaliate and Flank.
  • Second position: Chaos Golem - reason: Another high damage secondary tank with a good amount of HP as well.
  • Third position: Infernal Firestorm - reason: High HP magic attacker.
  • Fourth position: Lord Thanalor - reason: Good magic damage, high HP with Scavenge.
  • Fifth position: Rush Townsend - reason: High damage archer with Ambush.
  • Sixth position: Fenmoor Wood Troll - reason: Nice archer with Headwinds, lowering the incoming ranged damage by 1.

The Battle:

Deploying tactics:

Since my opponent isn't using a tactic Archon, I'm the only one who can choose a tactic, I can choose between Impede and Truestrike for two of my units, which lowers the enemy speed every time its being hit or Taunt and Redemption, I like to put Taunt on glass cannons in the enemy team, in that case the Redemption is a drawback, damaging all my units for 1 but I'll take that to be able to take out key units like healers or glass cannons.

what I mean with glass cannons are units doing very high damage but generally have low HP, like Rush Townsend in this battle.

So, I chose to put Taunt on the enemy Rush Townsend.

Ambush Round: Because my Archon gives Flying to all of my units, giving a 25% extra chance to dodge ranged and melee attacks, the enemy Ambush attack from Rush missed, while my Rush destroyed the enemy Rush's armor so it can be killed in round 1.

image.png

Round 1: My tank is already killed, but so is the enemy Rush, and another miss on my tank so that's nice!

image.png

Round 2: Two more attacks dodged by my tank, at this point I'm doing a lot more damage than my opponent so things are looking good.

image.png

Round 3: A lot of kills this round! The poison drop of my Wood Troll is bad but it will live for another three turns, I don't think the battle will last that long. The difference is HP is pretty significant now.

image.png

Round 4: And another miss! I like the Flying ability!

image.png

Round 5: It's three to one now, and because of the Scavenge, my Lord Thanalor has a lot more HP than the enemy's one.

image.png

Round 6: This will be over soon 😁

image.png

Round 7: Ok Ok.. enough played.. finish it!

image.png

Victory! I need them because this season I'm getting destroyed by high level accounts, so far I only have a 43% win rate, it's never been this worse. 😅
