Normally, there is beauty in diversity, and even the way people think and reason matters. The beauty of diversity is what makes life interesting and colorful. Imagine a world where everyone thinks the same way, dresses the same way, or likes the same things; life would be boring and without excitement. But because people are different, we get to appreciate variety, uniqueness, and different perspectives. However, in this same diversity, there are a whole lot of things that people take too personally or make a big deal out of. For me, I do not really consider those things important, because I do not see them as something worth dying for or making too much noise about.

One of such things is having the latest phone. Many people attach unnecessary importance to this. I had a friend who changed his phone almost every two months. Once he heard about the latest brand of phone, he would look for a way to sell the old one and buy the new one. No matter how expensive, he always found a way to add money just to upgrade. But to me, those things are not really necessary. As long as my phone can serve the purpose I need it for and it is not giving me issues, then it is okay for me. A phone is meant to make communication easier, help in browsing the internet, and keep us connected, but some people treat it as though their life depends on it.

Another funny thing that people make a big deal out of is social media likes and followers. Many people take that too seriously. After posting something, they keep monitoring the numbers of likes and followers as though their worth depends on it. If it is not up to their expectation, they feel depressed and sad. Some even start begging for likes, canvassing for followers, and in the process lose their peace of mind. Social media should be for connection, learning, and fun, not for unnecessary competition.

Another area where people overhype things is birthday recognition. Some people expect others to post them online on their birthdays. In fact, some even go as far as sending their pictures into people’s messages and demanding that they post them. If you fail to do it, they might become offended and develop issues with you. To me, that is unnecessary. Celebrating life should be more personal and meaningful, not dependent on public attention.

In the end, I personally think we should calm down on some of these things to avoid heartbreak. Life is too short to waste energy on what does not add real value.
