Soil is very important when it comes to gardening and general farming, it is the uppermost layer of the earth crust in which farming and other activities are carried out. For the soil to be fit for gardening and farming, it must be fertile, and out of the three kinds of soil that we know, loamy soil is best for gardening and planting. In my area, we have loamy soil, and that is the soil we use for planting.

Steady planting makes the soil lose its fertility, but over here I do not really like using fertilizer to improve the fertility of the soil, instead I make use of compost manure. Compost manure, often called compost, is an organic fertilizer made by the natural decomposition of plant and animal wastes under controlled conditions, it is rich in nutrients and helps improve soil fertility and structure. Unlike chemical fertilizers that may damage the soil with time, compost manure enriches it naturally, increases water retention, and keeps the soil alive with useful microorganisms.

We also rear goats, and every time that the goat dung is swept, I ensure that I dispose it in the soil that I will use for planting or the ones that I am already planting, even some leftover grasses consumed by the goats are disposed in the garden soil. Again, I ensure that any time I clear grasses around, I dispose them in the garden soil, with this, when they decompose they become manure to the soil and make the soil more fertile.

The last time I set up my water leaf garden, after making the bed, I packed grasses and put them there, any waste in the house and spoilt food I disposed on the bed that I made for planting and tilled it again to mix with the soil, this served as nutrients to the soil and made it fertile. Practicing this has been helpful to the soil over the years, and to some extent, it gives more yield to the crops than fertilizer, and it is environment friendly.
