Hello everyone
Looking for new songwriting ideas, I discovered, by chance, that the lyrics to "The House of the Rising Sun" are copyright-free. It was written over 95 years ago, and the original author is unknown. It's a traditional folk song that's part of the literary culture of Louisiana (USA).
The Animals made an incredible version that we all know and that does have copyright, but only in the music, since, as we just saw, the lyrics are in the public domain.
So, we're taking the plunge, even though we know this version will never live up to the one created by the British band but we want to spread the powerful message the original work conveys, we'll use the original lyrics from the "Anthology of Louisiana Literature" and the title it also originally had on the first known recording in 1933 by Gwin Foster and Clarence Ashley, "Rising Sun Blues."
As always, I hope you like it.

LYRICS:
There is a house in New Orleans They call it the Rising Sun, And it’s been the ruin of many a poor girl, And me, oh God, I’m one.
If I had only listened of what my mama said, I’d be at home today. But bein’ so young and foolish, my Lord, Let a gambler lead me astray.
Now, my mother is a tailor, She sews those new blue jeans. And my sweetheart is a drunkard, Lord, Drinks down in New Orleans.
Now the only thing a drunken man needs Is a suitcase and a trunk. And the only time he’s satisfied, Lord, is when he’s on the drunk.
Somebody go get my baby sister; Tell her not to do, not to do what I have done. But shun that house in New Orleans They call it the Rising Sun.
Well, I’m goin’ back to New Orleans; My race is almost run. Yes, I’m goin’ back to spend my life Beneath, beneath, the rising sun.
