Good health, disease and wellness is a concept that has faced a lot of debate for a long time. Over the years, the definition of health and wellness has sparked a lot of debate between medical scholars. However, amongst the many definitions of health, one of them stands out, which is the one proposed by the World Health Organization.

Good health encompasses the absence of disease and infirmity. A person is said to be in good health if they are mentally, physically and socially fine. For an average person, it can be very difficult to achieve this.
Most people have probably heard a lot of health talks both on TV, social media or in their doctors office. However, to some people, ignorance is bliss. Most of us believe in the saying, Health is Wealth," but in most cases, we throw away our understanding of this quote and then, go ahead with our activities of daily living. Some hardly do things that will promote their physical and mental health, neither do they go for routine medical check ups.
This post is an entry for Hive Learners prompt, Mental Vs Physical. In this prompt, I would write on my understanding of Mental health and physical health. I will also share a few tips of what i do to maintain good health mental and physical health.
Though mental and physical health works hand-in-hand to ensure the growth and development of the body, they differ significantly in their roles and functions.
Good mental health ensures good cognitive process as well as good social lifestyle and it in turn promotes physical health significantly. Conversely, bad mental health brings about a frustration, depression, bad cognitive processes, and other symptoms of mental illness that may affect activities of daily living.
There are a few steps i have to be physically and mentally healthy.
One of the most common thing i do is to stay hydrated. I have developed a habit of always taking water. When i wake up in the morning, the first thing i do is to take a sachet of water before I do any other thing. Most times, i take sips of water even when i am not thirsty. The downside of this practice is regular micturition. I prefer this than to have kidney issues though.

Exercise looks like a regular thing, but it helps a lot to ensure good mental and physical health. It burns excess fat, and promotes great blood flow through the body. I don't exercise often. Most times, I exercise when i'm stressed from work. Exercise intensity matters a lot and it depends on your health and wellbeing.
Another thing i do to stay mentally healthy is to set small goals, reward and punish my wins and losses, and evaluate my activities. I keep tabs of everything i do. Most times, i get frustrated and lose focus and interest on something if i don't have a defined goal. This will end up affecting a wide range of my activity and in some cases, my emotions too. To avoid this, i plan myself every day. Each day, when i wake up, after taking water, the first thing i do is to make a to-do list.
At the end of everyday, i do evaluate my activities. At the side of my to-do list, i write a note stating the reasons why i fail to do the task. This has help me over the years to keep my mental health in check by giving me a sense of accomplishment.
Lastly, another thing i do to keep my mental health in check is staying away from gossips, hating another person, or holding a grudge. Immediately after an incident, I try to forgive an offender or apologize if I offended somebody. I forgive, but i hardly forget. However, that doesn't mean I have a grudge.
One thing i hate with passion is gossips. It can cause a lot of issues, so, i stay away from it. Even if people are gossiping about me, I would not do anything about it. I don't really care what they say about me.
