Democracy, the government of some people

Leadership is very important in other to successfully run a country. Whether the system of government is democratic, autocratic, or military based, the most important thing is that a country have an empathetic leader that will make vital logical decisions that will benefit the people they are leader. ![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/nwothini335/23tH5RnBJNJeErVYyvsYxXU9VsAcKkhGVG29oTjgRdnM7Gy8jBCFmXkUM7cwXaikZcUeZ.png) [img src](https://unsplash.com/photos/red-paint-on-white-pavement-JqWvPQZXhIc)
There are diverse forms of government. All of these governments come with both an advantage and a disadvantage. In military rule after a coup for example, decision making is easier and faster as it lies on the head of one man, the military leader. True, deaths may or may not follow before the military leader ascends to the position of leadership, but then, I think this form of government is good because of the swift decision making. Conversely, in a democratic government, elections are carried out (which in most cases, could be rigged) to get a leader. It is said that Democracy is a government of the people, but here in my country, I don't really think that is the case. This post is an entry to hive learners prompt, Democracy. In this post, I will talk about the system of government in my country. I will share my thoughts about the system of government in my country and I will also talk about how things are run in my country (to the best of my knowledge). My country, Nigeria, is a beautiful country. Just like many other countries, we're blessed with natural resources. Giant of Africa, as the call us, we have added quite a lot of value to the world at large in one way or the other. We are called the giant of Africa, however, sometimes, I ask myself, in what aspect are we the giant of Africa? Nollywood? I'm glad that I'm a Nigerian but then, the democratic system of my country makes me doubt everything. Democracy have been indirectly changed from the government of the people to the government of some people. They promote freedom of speech but deep down, they don't want to to speak of their wrong doings. Corruption is everywhere, however, in a country that stands to proudly call themselves "Giant of Africa," corruption is bliss, selfish leaders exists and hardships is the order of the day. They say we practice democracy in Nigeria, but from the look of things, I don't really think it's democracy we practice. Here, power is passed from person to person. I remember the last presidential election that was held in my country. One of the presidential candidate was asked why he wanted to become the president and he said to the entire country that, it's his turn. Guess what? That candidate is currently rulling us. When he was announced as the president, instead of joy, many people throughout the country were annoyed. We saw a rigged election but what could we do? Somebody made a song calling out the ill practice of the government but he was arrested and his song was banned. ![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/nwothini335/23tbuQoUdHguU2TQ7ES6gj9nwd3dbYpHsCLZaMZvXdjC75RdiKtJXZE15j92RSkS9qLpu.png) [img ssrc](https://unsplash.com/photos/brown-wooden-chairs-on-gray-concrete-floor-7OxV_qDiGRI)
Due to the long process involved in a democratic government, corruption is bliss. Instead of building quality and equiped schools and hospitals for the people, they use billions of naira to do projects that don't make any sense. What's more is that, irrespective of the tax we pay, the government still go out to borrow money from big institutions. Sometimes, I admire the system of government in Burkina faso. The problem in my country may not be the system of government but the people that a indirectly making the government to favour them alone. Most times, I do wish that a coup will take place. Lol... Let the military hold power again. It may probably be better in their hands. Military rule has its own disadvantages, but I think it's better than what we have now. Like they use to say, "the devil you know is better than the angel you don't know." ~ unknown. Thank you for reading...
