Over here people see students as rich people that can afford anything they want. Their perception of students is quite a nice one, but the thing is that students are not as rich as they perceive. Due to the fact that some students are not from a rich family, they are forced to subconsciously learn how to properly manage their funds. If they misuse their funds or and emergency came up and they spend out of budget, they will have to go hungry or survive on garri for a long time until their parents send another money for up keep. ![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/nwothini335/23xAXkgVappRV5TMGDPMvdh65BP3oFHvtV1wyhVHcWLKFnFzAiMyHnVUyv7XyhMEyV31T.png)
You may be thinking - why not ask their parents for more money? Welp, the thing is their parents are not financially capable to keep supplying funds. Many students, most especially, those that don't have financially capable parents, go through a lot in school. This post is an entry for Hive Student Connect prompt, Managing money as a student. In this post, I would write on how I managed my finances when I was still in school. I was not born with a silver spoon. My parents were not all that financially free, so, things were not as rosy as I wanted them to be. The craziest thing is that my school is one that don't ask us to pay for something months before the deadline. The always make us pay two weeks or sometimes, a few days to the deadline of something. Honestly, I am not very good with managing finances as a student, but one thing i'm good at is planning my next source of income. One thing that helped me manage my finances as a student was not eating in a restaurant. Even up till date, unless I don't have any other option, I don't eat out. I prefer to make my meals by my self. By eating home made food, I save a few hundred naira that will help solve another problem. Another thing I do to save money as a student is to not be influenced to spend a lot. I always take the saying: "cut your coat according to your size" very seriously. Most times, I see people flexing in new outfits, going to parties and spending money on drinks and other things. However, instead of going out to spend on such things, I actually choose the option of staying back home and doing something else. At least, by so doing, I would not spend my feeding money. lol. These are some of the things I do in school to manage my funds. Thank you for reading. *Image belongs to me*
