It was a very hot saturday afternoon, the sun was up in the sky, blessing the day with it's hotness, the house was empty and the company was quite, everyone has gone to work and many children have traveled for holidays.
Samuel was sitting on the beach in front of their house with his check resting on his palm, he had already done with his chores and there was nothing left for him to do again, he was very bored, looking for what to do but found none. He thought of going to his friends house but remembered they have traveled to their auntie side for their holiday, he thought of using the internet but his phone was off and there was no light.
He brought out a book and pen to draw did not know what to draw, he started writing but all to no avail, he was looking for what he will use to kill the boredom but he find none.
"Today is the most boring day ever" he whispered to his self.
He brought out their mat outside and lay down on it trying to force his self to sleep but sleep was no where to be be found, he just laid on the mat with his face up and moody.
After some minutes, his sister precious ran out from the back of the house with a small basket in her hand, she was very happy and not even feeling the boredom her brother is feeling.
"Come, let go and gather grasshopper" said precious to his brother Samuel
At first, Samuel wanted to say no because he's almost 14 years and that is so childish for him to do or so he thought but seeing how bored and quiet everywhere is he accepted to follow her.
Precious was so happy that he accepted because he always rejected her offer when she brought up any childish ideas.
They went out in search of grasshopper and when they got to where she normally catch them, she told Samuel to stand and watch her pick grasshopper so that he would learn and he agreed.
She bend down and spotted a green grasshopper and followed it with her eyes gentle and catch it, she smiled, jumping up to show it to his brother.
"Your turn" she said to him.
Samuel bend down and followed his sister's step and also spotted a grasshopper but wasn't able to get it because it's escaped, precious laughed at him and he smiled.
He tried again and again but did not catch anyone and then he tried once more and caught one and with the joy he jumped up, laughing and he became very happy and they continued and got almost half of the basket and hours finished like minutes and the sun that was up in the sky started going down as people began to come back to their various house's and they went home.
That night after dinner, he sat down quietly reflecting on that day, he thought about boredom_how its sneak into your your life, making you feel restless and empty, and he realize an important thing, boredom only stays if you allow it to, sometimes it only take little creativity, small activity or simply saying yes to what to you always reject.
He turned to his sister and said to her "thanks for saving my life"
"Anytime big brother" precious said to her brother smiling.
Samuel smiled for the first time in the day, he was not longer afraid of what tomorrow might bring, he realize that even in the dullest of time, joy can be found if you open to it.
