I've been trying to think of some kind of daily(ish) warm-up to do to get my creativity flowing, and I've settled on trying to make some fun and useful roll-tables for gaming. These might also work as worldbuilding and writing prompts, which is why I'm choosing to post them here instead of in the Tabletop / DND community. The die roll will vary between lists and might increase as I add to them... but for now here's the first of the lot!
Weird Village Details
- There is a sprawling cave network under the village. Every house has a locked hatch that accesses it. The locals refuse to speak about it.
- Every gold coin in town has had one side defaced. Everyone treats it as perfectly normal.
- There is a well cared for statue in the centre of town. It depicts two figures in a defensive stance, one with a sword and shield and one with a staff. The details are long-faded and weather-smoothed. Nobody remembers who the heroes were or what they did, but they keep the statues as clean and maintained as possible.
- Every morning, the able-bodied among the village make an arduous pilgrimage to a remote shrine. The trip takes 5 hours daily.
- One of the houses in town has been boarded up, and villagers make a warding gesture each time they pass too close, as if to ward off evil spirits.
- There are no children in the village. There are discarded toys and overgrown play structures... but no children.
- There are 3x more taverns in town than you'd expect for a population of this size.
- Villagers talk in whispers about the upcoming annual visit of an Angel that has been watching over the village for several generations.
- There is a low hum everywhere in the village, which immediately stops as soon as you leave. None of the villagers have any idea what's causing it, but it's bothering them immensely.
- The villagers are adamant that, even if it asks you nicely, you are NOT to feed the crow. They say this in hurried, hushed voices. Do not feed the crow.
I hope you enjoy these! I've had a lot of fun making them!
