He turned a new leaf for his mother's sake.

"Mom, why are you crying? What happened in the market? What happened, Mom?" Samuel, who was reading in the family library, kept asking his mother after seeing that she entered the house with tears rolling down her cheeks. "Hmmm hmm hmm," Samuel's mom sniffed as she wiped her tears. "Do you know what I was addressed as today in the market? The women thought I wouldn't hear it, but I heard everything." Samuel's mom said as she cried even more. "What is it that they said that broke you like this? Are you telling me nobody beat you, nobody died, and you are crying this much, Mom?" Samuel asked, surprised by her reason for crying this much. ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmUP5bXXFvqjE3HCJvEdweNFSGSaNPMdCa4ZjU9CqwAbRW/1759254908186.jpg) **Image was generated using meta AI**. "Is there any way that your father and I failed you and your siblings?" Samuel's mother asked. "No, Mom, you and Dad did a fine job raising us, but what did they say, Mom?" Samuel asked, wiping her tears. "Today in the market I was addressed as the mother of a rascal; the women were murmuring, but I heard it loud and clear, and it made me feel like I failed as a mother." Samuel's mother responded. "I can tell you for free that you did not fail as a mother. Johnson, my brother, chose his path, and I am sorry that you have to deal with that." Samuel said as he wiped his mother's tears, making sure she stopped crying. Samuel was still trying to cheer his mother up when his brother, who has gone rogue, walked in. Samuel and Johnson are brothers, but it is hard to believe for those who do not know them very well; their characters and behaviors are too distinct for them to be considered brothers. Samuel loves to read; he is very intelligent and currently studying civil engineering at the university. While Johnson chose the street life, he does the things that his mother preaches against, and those things hurt her. When his brother decided to further his education at the university, he chose not to, not because they could not cater to his needs or they were not financially buoyant enough to sponsor both of them in school, but because his street life won't let him. His character and behavior made it look like he was hated in the family, but it was not so; everyone only frowned at his behavior but loved him dearly, but to him, his brother had all the love in the family. He hangs out with the boys from the hood who everyone knows are notorious and do bad things, and on so many occasions the police have come to the house looking for him because the boys he hangs out with have done something wrong, and he is also a suspect since he hangs out with them. Sometimes they successfully arrest him, and sometimes they don't find him at home. "Does seeing her cry and sad make you happy?" Samuel asked Johnson with a tone as he walked towards him. "I don't want any drama today, boy; the streets chose me. It is my nature to be rough, and her nurturing cannot change that." Johnson said as he also walked towards Samuel, and they bumped and challenged each other. "The streets chose you? That is the dumbest thing you have ever said." Samuel said as he pointed at Johnson and laughed. "Yes, the streets chose me. All of us cannot be weaklings like you whose only power is your intelligence. As for me, I have both street sense and intelligence as well." Johnson responded, and this got Samuel triggered, and he was about to throw a punch when his mother interfered. The mom turned around and saw what was happening, and then she ran and stood in between while still crying. Seeing his mother's tears rolling down her cheeks uncontrollably touched him, and he was forced to have a change of heart. "I am sorry, Mom." Johnson said as he hugged her tight, and everyone, including the mother, was surprised, as he was not known to ever say sorry. Samuel stopped trying to fight as he stood there looking at the drama unfolding. ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmdTTmsdkEfCEokBnQiFEr5zUYXRzELFsQsjVHoRsDjW2W/1759254908055.jpg) [Source](https://unsplash.com/photos/a-group-of-people-hugging-each-other-outside-GIWV1r7yvyU) "I know I have caused you all so much pain, and I am sorry about that. I hate to see you cry, Mom; for your sake, I will turn a new leaf." Johnson added as he made it a group hug by hugging Samuel too. **THE FIRST IMAGE IS AI GENERATED AND THE SECOND SOURCED FROM UNSPLASH**.
