I should have listened to the angel and not the devil?

Sam, a high school student who is known to be law abiding and a very obedient student, he made the mistake of surrounding himself with friends who enjoy breaking the law. They attend a boarding school that has a standing law that once you are behind the walls of the school, you can only leave when you are sick and the school clinic cannot handle your medical conditions or when it is time to go home for the holidays; aside from that, you are not allowed to be on the other side of the fence for any reason. ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmdAbjc5rzdtJKos2vyJZ3wqDK8DUCpR6Gww5RomVEnfYb/1757528380265.jpg) [Source](https://unsplash.com/photos/a-group-of-young-men-standing-next-to-each-other-pteQKSgqrvM) Sam's group of friends made absconding from school a habit; they made a hole under the fence. No matter how hard he tries to preach against it, they still end up doing it and calling him a name that always leaves him angry and wanting to do what they ask just so they can stop calling him the name. It was a new week, and as usual, every student was assembled to be addressed by the principal on how things will be for the new week and how every student is expected to behave. The students only assemble once a week unless there is emergency information that needs to be passed. "Good morning, students." The principal said. "Good morning, sir." The students responded. "This week is a new week, and as always, we expect every student to be of good behavior and not go against school rules and regulations, as you all know what the end result is. Is there anyone here that does not know what happens if a student goes against school rules?" The principal asked, but there was complete silence. "I am asking you, and I need an answer." The principal shouted. "No sir, we all know what happens, sir." Students answered "It has come to our notice that some of you have made absconding from school a habit because the punishment for doing so is mild, so we are changing that." The principal said as he walked away from the podium, and he had Sam looking at his friends. The mathematics teacher stepped up and was walking majestically towards the podium with a paper in his hands. "That must be the new rules and the punishment for those who abscond from school." The students whispered. "Good morning, students." The mathematics teacher greeted "Good morning, sir." The students responded. "So, the new punishment for those absconding from school is no longer community service but rustication for 2 semesters; that way you get enough time to reflect on your misconduct and wish you listened to the other voice and not the one you listened to, and that is all for this week's assembly. You can all march to your classes." The mathematics teacher said with a mischievous smile on his face. Everyone knew the mathematics teacher to be merciless, which is why he was given the position to serve as the chairman of the school's disciplinary committee, and he has been doing just that without looking back. Sam got to class a few minutes after his friends, and he saw them in their usual position; whenever they sit and are whispering, they plan to abscond from school. "You guys, even after what was read to us today, you guys better not be planning to abscond from school." Sam said as he took his seat. "Hey mommy's boy, you don't know what you are missing for not going with us; maybe you should come with us this time." Jude, one of Sam's friends, said to him and tried to touch Sam on the head. "I have told you to stop calling me Mommy's boy, and I am not coming with you." Sam said with a tone as always whenever he was called Mommy's boy. "Once won't hurt; we will take you to a game house where you will play games and forget about your sorrows." Jack, another absconder, chipped in just to convince Sam. "What if we are caught? "What do I tell my parents I absconded from school for what?" Sam asked and still had lots and lots of questions, but they kept making juicy offers just to get to him. "This is why I call you Mommy's boy; you never do something without thinking about your parents. Sometimes for you to have fun, you have to stop thinking about your parents." Jude said with a mischievous smile on his face, knowing fully well that would push Sam off balance. "I keep hearing a voice saying I should decline, then there is another voice saying to go with you guys and enjoy all the pleasures I cannot enjoy behind these walls." Sam said as he buried his head in his hands. ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmPvPwNEsML9zCeZ8mxMDsxAXCWTe3LxdKnnYBDvo8WMYW/1757528380217.jpg) [Source](https://unsplash.com/photos/a-group-of-young-men-sitting-next-to-each-other-nmI79PV4xYI) "We have never been caught; what makes you think we will get caught today? Huh?" Jude asked. "You have two voices, which means you have a choice to make, and you have to pick one out of the two. What will it be, Sam?" Jack asked, coming close to Sam's face like he wanted to eat it. "Okay, okay, okay, I will go with you guys, but just for today." Sam said, pushing Jack away from him. "Good, that is my boy; you made the right choice. We will be leaving immediately after lunch break and will be back by evening." Jude said, "Is that not too long? If we stay out for too long, it will be easy to notice that we are gone." Sam suggested "You have to stay out for long if you want to enjoy everything to the fullest." Jude said. They waited for lunch break to be over like planned and followed their route, which is a hole under the fence at the back of the school, but did not notice a CCTV had been fixed on a tree close to the hole. They were all captured passing through the hole. They had fun like always and returned in the evening. "I told you no one will notice we left." Jude said as they snuck back in through the hole and were once again captured by the CCTV. They were surprised to hear the assembly bell being rung for everyone to assemble as early as 6am on a Tuesday; that felt odd, but since no one caught them or said a word to them, they felt the bell was for something else. They marched to the assembly ground with so much confidence, but seeing the math teacher step up, they knew there was a problem. "Hmmmmm." The math teacher cleared his voice. "Funny how despite the warning and the punishment, some students still went ahead and broke the school's rules and regulations. I believe every student can see the projector over there." The math teacher said, pointing at the projector playing the clip of Sam and his friends absconding from school, "The moment Sam saw that, he knew the choice he made was the wrong choice, and he should have stayed back and not gone with them." Sam's choice of going to enjoy the things his friends enjoy out there caused him to be rusticated for 2 semesters, his first try, and it landed him in such big trouble that he regretted the choice and wished he could have a second chance and maybe he would have made the right choice.
