Will More Free Days Be Good or Bad?

## Hello, everyone. I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. We are all lovers of holidays; a holiday means you don't have to go to school or to work, you have your entire day, week or month to yourself, and you don't have to worry about meeting the deadline or how to go about getting an assignment done. It is no doubt a moment we all pray and hope for: the days where you wake up and can be in your bed for as long as you want without being forced to stand up and prepare for work or school. When you have work or school to attend, your morning always feels very short; you wake up and are not even fully awake yet, and you are rushing to start preparing for work just so you can meet up. ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmVpGqL5m7JdgZJvgK9dBfw5RnZWVUhNApKmn6dzirye2p/1758715341683.jpg) [Source](https://unsplash.com/photos/man-sitting-on-armchair-near-table-with-opened-coconut-BsjASVFy6IU) Your mornings are always in a rush, but on the days when you get a holiday, you can be in bed and enjoy the morning and only come out of bed because you want to and not because you are forced to. Trust when I say you will appreciate holidays better when you get a job, especially a government job, one that gives you little or no time for yourself, one where you don't even own your time or even yourself, as at any time you can be called upon or even be sent away, and ready or not, you have to respond. People with jobs like this appreciate holidays even more than students. My dad, who is a soldier, appreciates holidays even more than me, who is a student, especially if the holiday falls on a Thursday or Friday so that when he adds the weekend to the holiday, he gets to rest for a longer period of time before resuming work on Monday. There are jobs that force you to forget you are an adult and leave you craving and hoping for more rest days and free days because that is exactly what holidays are: you get to rest, and you get to do those things that work or school stop you from doing; more like you decide what happens that day.
Are there enough holidays on my country's calendar?

We have about 12 to 14 federal holidays. Adding a few others that are not added in the calendar but are still enjoyed, let's round it up to 20. So in a year, one doing a 9-5 job only gets 20 days of rest and has to work for about 241 days. As much as many people who own a firm or company will not like the idea of having a few more holidays because of how it will affect revenue generation, I think people doing a 9-5 job actually deserve it that we have more holidays at least so their energy can rejuvenate and they will be able to do a good job. I feel there should be more holidays than what we currently have, not too many, just enough to balance rest and the amount of work individuals put in because looking above, you see that the gap between the number of holidays gotten and the number of days they had to work is quite high, and a little balance will go a long way for individuals.
