Hurtful ways parents make their children feel insecure.

Parenting is a very delicate task and parenting demands a lot of attention and care, parents need to be careful of the things that they say to their children because children are extremely emotional beings that need serious care and attention but there are some parents who are also very toxic and they speak to their kids in a way that is not right. Being new into parenting can be a lot demanding and overwhelming but that is not an excuse to become extremely harsh on the child.

Blaming a child for having a certain type of body shape is going to emotionally make the child’s self-esteem go down, although parents should strive to lovingly make their children have a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle through training and discipline but they should also be very careful about making them feel less important as this may have an adverse emotional impact on their life.

Making a child feel bad about the way he talks or walks, making statements that makes the child feel he is abnormal is not safe for the mental health of that child, it will make the child feel less worthy and unappreciated. This may affect his adult hood and make him feel less loved and also withdrawn while he tries to look for ways to change himself into something that his parents will accept.

Telling a child about how much their coming to the world has become a great burden to you or how you wish you had given them up earlier causes a serious retraction on the self-esteem of that child, it could make the child even think about committing suicide so that you will be satisfied.

Most parents are used to comparing their kids to either their siblings or friends which is not good for the sanity of the child, the more you compare the child to his siblings the more hatred you are creating amongst them and they may carry such attitude to their adult hood, that child may also begin to feel that he may never be able to satisfy you like the other kids no matter how much he tries therefore keeping his distance away from you.

Parents need to understand that every child is unique in his own way and even if the child is not acting according to your own description of perfection, it does not mean the child should be looked down upon.

Breaking the promises that you make to a child all the time is a way to teach the child to have trust issues in the future. Promising them a vacation, a trip, a new cloth and every time you fail on that promise that child just has the mentality that it is normal to promise someone and disappoint them or that it is almost normal for everyone to make promises and break them.
