From Blank Page to Soul on Paper: The Process Behind My Drawings

Hey art lovers, dream chasers, and curious minds Have you ever stare at a blank page and feel that buzz of possibility?

That’s where every one of my drawings begins. Not with the perfect line. Not with a fully formed idea. But with chaos, coffee, music blasting, and a blank page that dares me to make it come alive.

Let me take you behind the scenes of my drawing process not just the technical steps, but the heartbeat behind each line. 💥

The Storm Before the Calm (a.k.a. Inspiration Hits Weird)

Inspiration doesn’t politely knock. It slams into me at 2AM. Or while I’m mid-conversation. Or brushing my teeth.

Sometimes it’s a face I see on the street. Other times, it’s a mood. A shadow. A lyric. A vibe. When it hits, I scribble it down — in my sketchbook, on my phone, on the back of receipts.

Because the seed of every drawing? It's a feeling first. Technique comes later. Emotion is king.

✏️ Step 2: Sketching Like I’m Possessed

Now the page isn’t blank. It’s a battleground.

I sketch fast. Loose. Messy. I’m chasing the energy of the idea not perfection. Not yet.

This part is raw. Sometimes I don’t even know what I’m making until the lines start speaking back to me. A face will emerge. Or an eye. Or maybe something surreal that doesn’t make sense but feels right.

I listen to what the drawing wants to be. Yeah, I know how that sounds. But artists, you get it.

Step 3: Lines That Mean Something

Once the chaos calms, I go in with intention.

This is when I define. Clean lines. Strong shapes. Contrast. Depth. But every line has to have a purpose. A story. Even a single curved eyebrow or cracked shadow it’s there to say something.

This part? It’s meditative. Obsessive. I zoom in until I forget time exists.

🎨 Step 4: Adding the Soul (Color, Texture, Magic)

Now we get emotional. Texture, shading, color are the mood-makers.

I might go dark and moody. Or vibrant and loud. It all depends on what the piece is whispering or screaming to me.

This is where the drawing stops being a drawing and starts becoming a portal. Something that pulls you in and doesn’t let go.

Step 5: Step Back. Breathe. Name It.

This is harder than it sounds.

I step back. Look at it fresh. Sometimes I hate it. Sometimes I fall in love.

Then comes the name. It’s got to capture the feeling the soul behind the piece. Once it has a name, it’s real. It’s done.

And that’s when I share it with you.

Real Talk

Every drawing I post is a piece of me. A moment in my life, frozen in ink, graphite, color, light.

Some days the process flows like magic. Other days? It’s like pulling teeth with a pencil.

But every time, I finish with something that didn’t exist before. That’s the thrill. That’s the high.

That’s why I draw.

Thanks for coming along the journey with me.
