A Journey to the Peak View Trail and Jefferson View Shelter

@oldmans · 2025-07-11 19:15 · Silver Bloggers
The temperatures cooled somewhat so I decided to get out for a short hike and a visit to the Jefferson View Shelter high in the Central Oregon Cascades. Since I'm a little out of shape for a strenuous hike there will also be some video of my drive to the shelter. Below you will find a picture of the final destination for the day. Continue reading to see all the sights and retelling of my adventure. 😄

pvt-1.JPGAfter parking my Jeep at the trailhead I begin my ascent up to the open plain with some spectacular views of the surrounding peaks. The road you see is where I will continue my journey after the hike.

pvt-2.JPGHad I paid more attention to the topographic map during my research of the Peak View Trail, I might have realized that I was in for quite a steep start to my hike.

pvt-3.JPGBeing somewhat out of shape I had to stop several times on the way to the top. Here is a shot looking back to the southeast where it was very hazy.

My first view of a couple of the Cascade mountain peaks.

Fianlly as I begin to crest the top of the hill, two of the Three Sisters peaks come into better view. The North Sister on the right and the Middle Sister on the left.

pvt-9.JPGA little ways off to the left is the South Sister.

pvt-10.JPGAnd here is the three of them in one shot.

pvt-11.JPGA little further up the trail is my first view of Broken Top.

pvt-12.JPGA left owver reminder of a fire that swept through here some years ago. You can also see some of the blue trail markers since this is a popular snowshoe trail during the winter.

A look inside the shelter. Probably a welcome sight on a cold winter day out snowshoeing. 🙂
