## English Hello, friends! I continue to share my impressions of the "Lunar Chronicles" book series. The second book "Scarlet" deals with the retelling of the fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood". ### Plot The events of "Scarlet" begin immediately after the end of "Cinder". The actions of the book are divided into two parallel storylines. The first line is a retelling of "Little Red Riding Hood" and tells the story of a girl called Scarlet Benoit, who lives in the small provincial French town of Rieux, European Federation, on a farm with her grandmother. One day, her grandmother, a former pilot in the European Air Force, disappears without a trace. After the investigating authorities close the case for lack of evidence, Scarlet decides to start a search on her own. And in this she is helped by a mysterious new acquaintance nicknamed Wolf. The second line focuses on the protagonist of the first book - Linh Cinder. Her adventures begin in the same place she found herself at the end of the previous book. Cinder is joined by a new character, Carswell Thorne. Kai also appears periodically in the pages of the book, trying to deal with political problems.

### Characters **Scarlet** is an 18-year-old girl who lives and works on a farm. The girl attracts attention not only by the red colour of her jacket, but also by her character. She is spunky, assertive, brave and totally fearless. Scarlet is the kind of person who acts first and thinks later. This heroine is impressed by her strength and resilience, she is a real fighter, ready to go all the way. **Wolf** is a mysterious and dangerous street fighter, not as simple as he seems at first sight. His interesting backstory unfolds as you read the book. **Cinder** becomes livelier, more determined, more courageous in this book. She continues to fight for freedom and happiness of herself and her loved ones. She is also positively influenced by new characters. **Carswell Thorne** is a cadet who has escaped from the armed forces of the American Republic, likes to call himself Captain. A very narcissistic guy who dilutes the book with humour and positivity. **Kai** - overall I didn't notice a strong development in this character. He is a hostage to the situation and political issues. This book mainly shows his experiences, thoughts and memories, but nevertheless it was interesting to watch the developments on his behalf as well.

### My impressions Surprisingly, I enjoyed the second part of "Lunar chronicles" even more than the first. "Scarlet" is an interesting book, with place for a love line, a sinister mystery, humour and adventure. It isn't without the trappings of the original fairy tale - the wolf, the grandmother and the main character's red jacket. But compared to "Cinder", this story is less of a retelling and more of an original story. In "Scarlet", the plot is larger, more dynamic, exciting, suspenseful and violent. Sure, some plot twists were predictable, but I found the book so engaging and interesting that I couldn't tear myself away from it. Marissa Mayer very believably managed to merge the two storylines, so I didn't get the feeling that all the events were dragged out of proportion. The ending in the second book was more complete than in the first, but still the author left a few issues open for the sequel. **My rating - 10/10**.
